Nevertheless, Kamala Harris Persisted: Senator Told to Pipe Down, Twitter Goes Wild

http://www.sfgate.com/business/article/Nevertheless-Kamala-Harris-Persisted-Senator-11202953.php

During Senate Intelligence Committee questioning Wednesday about whether Donald Trump has intervened in ongoing investigations about Russia’s involvement in the United States 2016 presidential campaign, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) had a terse exchange with the committee’s chair, Richard Burr (R-NC).

Harris, the only woman of color and California’s former attorney general, was interrupted first by Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and then told by Burr to “provide the witnesses the courtesy, which has not been extended, fully across, for questions to get answered.” Harris tried to explain that she was worried Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who she was currently questioning, might try to filibuster. Burr cut her off again and encouraged Rosenstein to speak.

Earlier this year, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) was similarly chastised by a male colleague when she was trying to speak. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said, “She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted,” a now infamous line used as a symbol of female empowerment.

Twitter users are drawing a connection between the two incidents, and are not happy with the way Harris was treated. “A White male GOP senator tells a female Senator to be quiet. Where have we heard that before?” one Twitter user asked. “Listen to how these white men are talking down to Kamala Harris,” tweeted another

Did you know that marital rape was protected and legal across the US into the 1970's? It wasn't until 1993 that it was made universally illegal.

It is still less than even 100 years since women were "allowed" to vote.

As recent as 1984 was the first year we ever even had a woman on a presidential ticket.

Roe vs. Wade was only in 1973.

Just a few of the very basic rights for women that really wasn't afforded them until very recently.

THEY are using those natural attributes of being a woman and having black skin as well as her positions of being from CA and being elected to represent CA.

That's sexist.
That's racist.

We need say it for what it is if change is to be made.

Stop giving credence to their sexism, racism and disrespect by saying she has things against her.

They are using sexism, racism, where she's from and being democrat against her.

Your may say semantics, but consider differences:

They were chastising her questioning, as if she needed correction about the questions she asked. They're her questions, she can ask them as she deems so.

VS

She has 4 things against her
She's a woman
she is black
she is from CA
she is a Dem

You placed in your statement the onus on her sex, her skin color, her origin, and political party.

Place the emphasis on what you mean, especially when choosing brevity. Keep the focus on their inappropriate actions. Yes, it takes more space.

My intent here is informational; I figure you don't see it differently.
