South Florida DU'ers check in

As if 12 inches of rain isn't enough. Or that Sawgrass Mills is closed for the first time ever. Or the ceiling at my store collapsing this morning. We now have another major line of storms coming in by nightfall.

How is everybody?

He took some friends to pick up their prescriptions - otherwise he seldom goes to Walmart.

The state needs the rain, just not all in a few days. When we were pulling weeds Monday, the ground was dry. Now it is saturated.

And rain is forecast every day and night for the next week.
The monsoon season is here with a vengeance.

Tonight dark, with continued darkness until morning when scattered light will increase.... gotta keep some humor.

It is very wet here.

No problems though.

I have a roofing issue on an old addition to the house with a flat rooftop. I have plenty of tarps. The tarps do no good because there's a bowl effect so everything settles under the tarps. The angled rooftop from the original design sends water toward the area. Nothing I can do but go out there several times per day and sweep the rain off the rooftop. Right now I don't get any hours of normalcy because the weather pattern is so bizarre with persistent rain at all hours, unlike the typical afternoon sporadic showers. I can only dream of that.

Yeah, I feel like an idiot for putting off this fix. I have the funds set aside but I kept getting more companies out here to take a look. I thought I had another few weeks before the rain was a daily problem. In recent years its been late June and not late May.

The company I wanted to use was easily the most impressive, including moisture meters and tons of detail. They were giving me a slanted rooftop that eliminated the problem for good. I see other nearby flat rooftops that have the same situation I do, with standing water but not as bad. Not yet.

The company's initial estimate was quite reasonable. But the final verdict was vastly different. Otherwise I'd have this done by now. The owner claimed his young helper made a significant math mistake while punching up the figures and giving me the estimate on the spot.

That way it could create a rolloff effect.

I have the same situation over my utility room.

As recently as this afternoon. In fact I might try it tonight. There are supposed to be heavy rains in the wee hours.

I have a basketball and a few soccer balls.

The amount of rain really doesn't matter. The settling is what causes problems. As long as I get up there and sweep it off fairly quickly I'm okay. Once it settles I get drips and drips.

Right now I'm willing to pay the higher rate from the company with the slanted roof proposal. But the owner tells me they aren't allowed to work on any day with higher than a 30% forecast of rain. My job is supposed to be two full days.

30%...what a joke. We don't have anything below 50 or 60% in the foreseeable, and most are 70% and up. I might be stuck for quite a while.

We have had some much needed rain but not as much as the coastal areas have received. I'm almost happy for cloudy days to finally keep the temps at about 80 degrees instead of the 90's it's been for the last couple of weeks. Crazy weather.

I hope that all of you who are getting "bigly" amounts of rain will be safe and without damage to life and property.

many areas, and thank goodness for that. Apparently our little places in Manatee and Citrus counties near Sarasota and Inverness aren't getting the brunt of this, but wildfire danger was extremely real for the latter when we headed north, especially as the marsh surrounding it had mostly dried up. Even the deeper water by the house was so shallow in spots that the sandhill cranes who spend a good part of their days excavating our "lawn" for insects could just wade across.

Stay safe, and I am sorry about the roofs. That's miserable.
