I think the release was from the Senate, sounds like an obligation to do before speaking to the Senate on national TV.

comey didn't release the remarks. the senate intelligence committee released them. the way they were treated by the IC chiefs today by not getting some basic questions answered, i believe they did this to send a message to the administration...

Im positive republicans were planning to deflect the testimony toward HRC ranther than don the con. This way Comey gets his points out instead of hoping he would be asked pertinent questions.

Comey asked the cmte to release his opening statement and they agreed. It's a bit surprising since the Rs control it, but Burr was pretty PO'd (he scolded them for not having answers) at today's witnesses.
