I'm from the UK - I've been an avid reader of the boards for over a year. I saw all the travails with the Election Day hack of the boards and all the suffering with the subsequent election of Drumpf.

I was up bright and early this morning to cast my vote. Unfortunately it was pouring with rain and the polling station had been moved since the last election so I spent around 20 minutes getting soaked wandering around trying to find it. Eventually I did - the actual polling station was a converted shipping container at the back of which sat two officials waiting to collect the voting papers. I don't know if it's the same in the US, but there are some weird and wonderful polling stations here in the UK on election day. I just saw a picture on the Guardian website of a converted railway carriage being used as a polling point ! Since lunchtime it has been bright and sunny, which may bode well for a high turn-out (good for Labour Party).

The first results will be through at 11 UK time - it's usually a race between two constituencies - Sunderland South and Sunderland North, to see who will return the first result. I live about 5 miles away from those constituencies. I'm in the North-East of England which is a traditional Labour heartland, although in the Brexit referendum Sunderland voted to leave the EU - I voted to remain, and I'll be fascinated to see tonight if it has affected the Labour vote.

Been watching the Comey hearings all afternoon here - it's certainly a big day for global politics !

It's also worth noting that at 10 p.m. the two major broadcasters, BBC and ITV, will publish their prediction of the result, on the basis of a large exit poll. If it looks like May is going to have a majority of over 40, I may have an early night ! Less than that, it could be worth staying up to watch.

without a majority, who would the Tories ally with? Is there another party this would be a victory for?

Northern Irish politics is currently in a mess, since they had an election in March and no one has been able to form a government.
