(111,255 posts)but that the government might not last very wlong with that slim a margin, if it holds up.
It's interesting that UKIP is making a poor showing, but I imagine their voters won't own up to it in exit polls I expect them to get a few seats here and there.

(19,956 posts)Interesting if the abstentionists, Sinn Fein, end up putting the Tories back in, by continuing to refuse to take their seats in the UK Parliament.
In any case, this could turn the Brexit story in a different direction.

(19,956 posts)would be pro EU, but Corbyn railroaded them into their current bullshit "we must respect the will of the British people", when there was clear wiggle room of demanding a a 2nd Referendum once the terms of the Brexit negotiations were complete. Corbyn and those further left Labour MPs have been ambivalent towards the EU, blaming them for the erosion of union worker rights, which is debatable.

(101,312 posts)She had a true majority before - the Tories had 330 seats before the election. This would mean that she weakened her position, and might lose it.

(5,442 posts)My understanding was that she called this election out of an abundance of confidence that it would strengthen her party's numbers in Parliament. They didn't have to have this election, it was a ploy on her part. So this is bad news for the Conservatives.

(3,613 posts)I assume that there will be a recount if it is close.
muriel_volestrangler
(101,312 posts)They normally do recounts on the night. By now, nearly every seat has declared a result. The closest is Fife North East, where the SNP has held on with a majority of 2 votes over a Liberal Democrat.
"The Lib Dems made a request for a fourth recount in North East Fife, which was refused. They say they will take legal advice after losing the seat by two votes."

In Southampton Itchen, just a few miles from me, the Tory held on with a majority of 31. That doesn't look close enough for further recounts - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/politics/constituencies/E14000955
