I woke up one morning with a leg cramp like I've never had before or since and it was discovered that I had 100% blockage in the artery going to my left foot so the VA sent me to OKC to have a bypass done. First trip down there, 180 Miles, the VA at OKC had no record of me being scheduled for that day so I come back home and wait. About 2 or so months later the Muskogee VA calls me and says they have the paperwork all figured out and I'm scheduled for the surgery on, whatever day it was, so I trudge my old ass off to OKC and sure enough they're aware of my schedule this time. A couple young, still wet behind the ears, doctors comes in and starts explaining to me the procedure of how they'd be cutting my leg open from my sack all the way to my heal and be taking a section of artery out of my upper thigh to graft in my ankle region where the blockage is, BUT, big but here. But the graft might not take because it has been so long since the blockage occurred. My question then was well what happens then and one of the doctors says matter of factly we'll have to take the foot off. I'm all Oh Shit. I look at my wife and she looks at me with that same Oh Shit look. The doctors tell me at that point that is why they had me coming in two hours before the scheduled operation so I could decide if I wanted to proceed. I say that hell my foot is not bleeding and I walked in on it and I believe I'll walk on out of here and we left and I came home. Thats been 12 to 15 years ago and I'm still walking on that foot.
As soon as the two not more than a few weeks out of med schools so called doctors walked in the room I was alarmed and very uneasy. No way was I going to let them cut my leg open from my sack to my heal based on a come that might not quiet make it here.
