Great - "hero" and "patriot" Reality Winner wanted to burn down the white house and live in

Kurdistan.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2017/06/09/judges-denies-bail-for-accused-nsa-leaker-reality-winner-after-not-guilty-plea/?utm_term=.fff9997300da

"Solari told the judge that Winner may be in possession of more top-secret intelligence. While still serving in the Air Force, Winner inserted a portable hard drive into a military computer, Solari said investigators have learned, according to the AP. Authorities don’t know what was saved to the drive or where it is now.

Comments Solari said Winner wrote in a notebook also concerned the judge: “I want to burn the White House Down … find somewhere in Kurdistan to live. Ha-ha!”

Prosecutors said they also found the names of three known Islamist extremists in Winner’s notebook, reported Reuters. As an Air Force linguist, Winner learned to speak Arabic and Farsi. She served for six years and worked with a unit of Afghans, which brought her joy, her parents told the Huffington Post."
...
But ultimately, the judge denied the request, citing her notebook musings on the Middle East and comment about burning down the White House as unsettling.

but not what was saved on it? Seems like the security/monitoring program is missing an important piece.

In our history, gifted with wide oceans, we have done a pretty good job of assimilating other cultures. But Islam is another civilization and it has it's pluses for those inside of it. We are fools to think Americans would be immune to that belief system.

and that's OK. Most of us are also not going to release classified information or doing anything else that might land us in jail. We can be naive and say pretty much whatever we want. Ms. Winner probably felt that way, too, when she wrote that stuff. But, then, she did release a classified document and got arrested for doing that.

Whether or not her release of that document was a good or bad thing, her past writings, etc., are going to result in her sitting in jail until her case actually comes to trial. That is unfortunate for her.

Moral: If you're planning to do something that might send you to jail, it's probably a good idea not to reveal too much about yourself in public. That might backfire on you.

Im not excusing her but pointing out that people post a lot online out of frustration. I know I've made comments about using an excrement catapult to launch pooh onto my enemies, but that doesn't mean that I have one built in the back yard.

for releasing classified documents or anything else like that. Everyone's free to speak their minds, but sometimes what you say comes back to bite you on the ass. Such is the case with Ms. Winner, unfortunately for her.
