Yesterday was a day chock full of news, from Jim Comey's testimony to the UK election. But life goes on. Particularly, Republicans under Mitch McConnell are still trying to take away health care.

It is baffling to someone raised to have care and consideration for fellow human beings that a political group is giddy at the thought of revoking the security of health care coverage for millions of people. The priests with whom I grew up would mince no words and call that "evil".
But here we are. Republicans are actually tumescent at the thought of doing this. From a point of public policy this makes no sense. It's being penny-wise and pound-foolish. It makes much more fiscal sense to outlay monies to make sure the population has access to health care than to not and rely on overburdened emergency rooms which will never recoup their expenses from the uninsured.
However, this has nothing to do with policy. At some point one just has to admit that some people like watching people hurt. It's patently obvious that Republicans believe that those who can't afford health insurance by their own means deserve their fate. God has marked them out as unfavored, and who are we to go against God's judgments? The GOP is infected with a strain of dark Puritanism, where your lot in life is divinely ordained and merited, and society at large should do nothing to ameliorate your condition.

I wonder if they bought some kegs of beer, as the Congress did in advance to celebrate killing Americans with joyful glee. The cruel evil joke is by the numbers will be killing more of their Con consituents that ours. And the stupid ill informed are applauding their decision.

(24,560 posts)They rarely follow politics in any depth and get their faux news fix in sound bites. I wonder how many even know who their Senators are, much less how they vote. If only they weren't going to take so many innocents down with them.

(83,748 posts)I know mine and know how they will vote, yet called to say thank you. They just may get it through this time. 23 million and that is only the beginning, read in a few years it will be closer to 52 million.
Hey brer...I know most of theirs do not know...yet sad thought.... How many of ours do not know?

(24,560 posts)My sister and I make calls and write letters, but it's futile. They will vote party and $$$ over country and their fellow citizens every time. It's disgusting.

(888 posts)While everything you said makes perfect sense, you're not understanding the conservative mind.

(83,748 posts)I am well aware that this in a large part is being done so the wealthy will gain obscene tax cuts. That and Trump and GOPeeees destroy all the good that Obama has done. Why? Because he is the uppity black man that did it better than they ever could. He was all that is good and they are all that is evil and they can't handle it.
