do you think Comey has tapes of his interactions with Trump?
We know about the memoranda, but for a seasoned member of the FBI, wouldn't you tape and make memos for double protection?
Just because Comey hasn't admitted or denied having these tapes doesn't mean they don't exist.

(36,827 posts)So far his comments lead one to believe he doesn't, but I have written down conversations with people immediately afterward to cover my own ass and it's very hard to remember even short conversations verbatim. So if you've ever done this a time or two it makes the prospect of recording the conversation much more attractive, even if it's only for the purpose of transcribing notes. So I think it's very possible Comey may have recordings that he just doesn't want to pull out unless he's backed against a wall.

(36,827 posts)For one thing FISA doesn't apply to this situation in any shape or form. As far as other laws go, in most jurisdictions including federal it's fully legal to record a conversation so long as one of the parties consents. In other words, you can record your own conversations with others all you want regardless of whether they know you are recording them or not. There's a few states where all parties must consent to being recorded, but DC is not one of those.

(423 posts)On occasion I use my iPhone to record interviews or meetings to take notes afterwards- takes the pressure off remembering everything and taking notes during the meetings. Comey's notes are so detailed- it would make sense.
