A convert :) This one is big because I have watched this man back up the rethugs for years

Just got an email from him. He said " I can no longer support the Republican party. I feel they have no integrity left standing behind Donald Trump." He then went on to say he feels ashamed for having voted for Trump(R). I asked him what has caused his shift. He said he was in the military a long time and that he knows how certain inflections can be given with words and facial expressions and used as a command. He said while he was watching the Comey testimony on tv he just knew in his gutt that Comey wasn't lying. He said that's when he knew that Trump(R) was lying about obstruction. He also feels that the Republicans are covering for him knowingly and he said that's why he doesn't want to be a Republican anymore. This is an old man who has been a life long Republican.

These actions of Trump(R) are creating a house of cards for the Republican party. Might take a while.. it is having it's effect though.

It gives me hope. I prefer to think most people are not evil, just some, most people aren't incapable of rational thought, though some are. We do tend to see things through our personal perspective and every now and then something will happen that causes us to rethink. reevaluate and go in a direction we never thought we would.

When I was young I accepted a lot of common "wisdom" concerning homosexuality, the death penalty, the place of women in society, well this list is long and boring. The upshot is that I don't accept those things as "wisdom" but just plain wrong.

Your friend is finally seeing the light! Maybe he will even vote D next time, one can always hope.

Next time you're in contact, remind your friend that the Democrats have done a lot of good for this country. The Republicans on the other hand are nothing like they used to be. If he's an old guy he probably relates to Eisenhower and Reagan, but those days are gone forever. That party is dealing with the devil now.

What would the Repugs have done, if the Dems had supported him, and he won the Pres election?

Especially if he was pushing the same anti-democracy fascista platform.

Would it have been a massively bi-partison Congress, or what?

Worthless but possibly amusing supposition, I know.....

A reminder: RICO is on the agenda for the GOP leadership. Ryan is recorded on TWO occasions talking with Kislyak about laundering Russian money through the GOP 2016 campaigns. McConnell received a boatload of Russian money through one of his super-PACs. Russian laundered money is pouring all over the GOP. And Mueller knows it. So does Schneiderman.

GOP reluctance to criticize Trumpy is directly connected to their acceptance of Russian money into their super-PAC campaigns partly to launder millions. The entire GOP is on the take.

But I'm still afraid of what will happen if they just refuse to leave; if, instead, they find a way to usurp the entire system -- maybe going further than Bush did and as far as Cheney would have -- to simply tell us all to accept their rule or face consequences. The nasty voice of that punk, Steven Miller, sneering at every American value and telling the public to obey the Orange One's edicts "without question" sticks in my mind and my craw.

I remember talking to a knowledgeable friend about Nixon's demise. He insisted that Nixon would have beaten the rap if he hadn't alienated the Republican Party. But todays GOP is slavering and drooling all over the Orange One's ass because they (Ryan, McConnell and virtually every other GOP Rep and Senator and Governor and on down) see in him a way to get done the kinds of things that will consolidate the power of the Plutocracy they serve so well. In Nixon's era, the GOP had many (many!) members who honestly cared about the American people, about the American Constitution. Today, most of them (yeah, Ryan, McConnell, etc.) care about neither. It's the Party that matters, not the Country or its people. And the Party in question is the Party of Greed.

I have seen and heard numerous GOP strategists start to repute and criticize Dump, even though GOP congress has not. Makes me wonder why they are starting to tear away from Dump's platform and his antics? These strategists are the ones who are going to be involved with the 2018 GOP campaigns...maybe these strategists are looking into a glass ball and are positioning themselves early?

Not all, but many have.....what are they seeing that we are not privy too?

A couple of months ago these were strong supporters...not now. Maybe there is hope?

not just Trumps but the GOP overall. They see that if this continues their jobs are going to be harder because if the DNC has any sense, besides coming up with good policy to run on, they'll tie Trump around the neck of everyone running in 2018.

Trump reminded her of every bad boss she'd ever have, while Comey was obviously telling the truth (even if relishing the revenge perhaps). She is appalled that Republicans in Congress don't care if Russia is controlling people at the very top of our government, and she is concerned about Trump's efforts to wreck so many of our nation's institutions from public education to healthcare.

Trump is just the ulcerous foot requiring amputation. I have minimal hope that the GOP will recognize the root cause disease and do anything to adjust the information diet causing the neuropathy.

Glad to hear of at least one case to the contrary, though.
