Russia considering bill that would make voter-fraud illegal.

https://www.rt.com/politics/391373-bill-criminalizing-poll-rigging-drafted/

Two Russian ruling party lawmakers have drafted a bill introducing criminal responsibility for the type of election fraud known as ‘carousel voting.’

...

The main target of the new amendment is the illegal practice known as ‘carousel voting’ by the same people at various ballot stations, often for a bribe. Presently, such fraud is considered an administrative offense with a maximum punishment of 50,000 rubles ($877).

------------

Russia is so forward-thinking. Just a month ago they passed a bill that makes kidnapping a woman to force her into marriage illegal, EVEN IN THE CASE IF SHE ESCAPES FROM THE KIDNAPPING OR GETS RELEASED BY THE KIDNAPPERS.

Russia is truly much more civilized than the US.

Yeah, but it's not the text of the law it's the enforcement that matters. Igel Jun 2017 #1

Carousel voting was a big deal in the Crimea and Donbas when they had elections. Oddly, nobody in Rossiya actually cared about it.

Now that there's a glimmer of an organized opposition, it must be banned ... and even if it is, having it in the public discourse will allow them to point to any victory, however minute, by the opposition and says, "See, I warned you about the dangers of carousel voting!"

If the powers that be need to continue the practice, though ... not a word.

It's very forward thinking. In a late 1930s sort of way. Nazad v SSSR, tovarishch. Back to the USSR ... but now we say gospodin. Progress po-russki.
