He backed him in 2010 in a general election. I know Periello had a commercial with Obama in it, but that was from 2010. Some reason the commercial he released this year didn't mention the date.

The reason many obama people supported him was because his support for some of obamas key issues while coming from a conservative district

But the election pretty much came down to inner state politics where most virgina dems supported northam.

I was very happy with both him and Perriello; I just like him slightly better as the person to keep Richmond in the blue. Great campaign on both sides.

Happy to see something of an enthusiasm gap between the Dem and GOP primaries. Can't believe (well actually I can...but...) Corey frickin' Stewart is so close to first on the GOP side.

That's ok, if Stewart wins I have every confidence in Northam -- he's US Army. It might be a slog, but he'll ultimately get to Richmond.

"In May, Northam, the state’s lieutenant governor who has been described as “mild-mannered” and “genteel” over the course of his political career, offered a controversial diagnosis of the president in a campaign ad. “I’m listening carefully to Donald Trump, and I think he’s a narcissistic maniac,” he says, looking at the camera. “Whatever you call him, we’re not letting him bring his hate into Virginia.”

I had voted twice for Perriello before, but was undecided down to the wire in the primary because both appeal to me. Then was laid up in NC on election day and could not get to vote at all.

Satisfied with the result but Perriello can take hope for the future in that he is very popular among Dems in his former district, which perhaps he can take back from the Republicans.

and Perriello won by only 1,000 votes. He was summarily beaten by Robert Hurt, who is no longer our congressman. The current dolt, Tom Garrett, is a jackass, too, but this is a tough district - very red.

Garrett, though, has run into a blue wall of resistance, so who knows what will happen?

That said, it wasn't one I was caring a lot about. It did not appear to be one of those races where one candidate was much more progressive on the issues. The good swipe against Trump may have helped Northam.
