This is what my father a WW2 veteran said about Rush Limbaugh years ago..

He told me this:

"Rush Limbaugh is to the right wing what Joseph Goebbels was for Nazi Germany. It's a repeat. People need to be very wary of the racism that is to follow. "

That's exactly what's unspooled over the last 20-30 years. The detestable limbaugh gave all that a voice. Its first high-profile and ubiquitous voice. Because the bad guys had already built the radio infrastructure to support sending ONE good voice all over everywhere, in every nook 'n' cranny in America and all the ships at sea. And lots of those nooks 'n' crannies were populated with angry aggrieved middle-aged-and-older white men. I suspect it was this group that was most likely to have been told rather abruptly during the 70s and 80s that they had to move over and make room for "the other" at work, at church, at their kids' school. Suddenly they were forced to share the job market with people who didn't look like them - in skin color AND gender - and very clearly weren't one of them. That segment of the population, which we've since come to know as the so-called "forgotten Americans", thus found its champion.

The only problem was - limbaugh was a disembodied voice on the radio. What was needed was a living, breathing, flesh-and-blood, in-yer-face, don't-care-what-you-think version of limbaugh. They ALMOST had it with george dubya my-way-or-the-highway. But seems he wasn't quite ruthless enough. He had cheney for that. But with trump, the base has EVERYTHING! limbaugh/dubya/cheney all rolled into one single large vulgar walking talking orange pustule.
