Yes it was yet another "mass shooting" but it was also an attack on Democratic government

It's pretty damn serious and we should react to it with just as much outrage as anyone on the Right can muster. Fundamentally it is the same as when Gabby was shot. Of course we need open eyes to see what enables this type of violence:The NRA, all of it. But we shouldn't skip past expressing solidarity as Americans for our Democratic institutions and for all of the people who are elected to represent us in them - to only express anger at the NRA etc.

Today I stand with the Republicans who were on that baseball field this morning, no matter what I think of their personal political views. And I am thinking too of the two Democratic candidates for the House of Representatives who withdrew from the race due to death threats against their families

...but I think we should wait to see what exactly the shooter's motive was in this case.

It could be anything from a nut job to an armed conspiracy. It is an attack on Democracy regardless.

...it was an attack on our democracy.

It was an attack on all who believe in our democratic system of government.

should have a security detail. It sounds like the only reason this was not a bloodbath was the presence of special security on the Majority Whip.

In general it is virtually impossible to stop a determined assassin without Presidential level of security.

...I'm less certain that's all that's required, or would even restrain a determined shooter.

What we need is leadership which unites Americans against violence, politically motivated or otherwise.

Yes, gun control. But there can't be any more horrible example of what guns do and bitter, rageful responses do no one proud.

This kind of thing can destroy a country. Please don't contribute to that.

We don't shoot. We VOTE.

No matter their party affiliations or deplorable views, they are human beings and are someone's children, partner and parents.

Republicans can keep their toys, but use them on human beings for any reason, and that's when we have a problem.

.

This is one of the things I can't figure out about most of these shooters.

Many go after innocent people or low-level people who are employees, instead of the ones driving the issues.

Perhaps, this will drive a paradigm shift with the mentally imbalanced and those seeing no future or issued death sentences because they are denied medical coverage, forced into starvation, or homelessness. Hopefully, his motives will be discovered, because killing them often leaves these questions unanswered.
