The decision of NBC to offer conspiracy theorist and Sandy Hook troll Alex Jones a prime time interview with Megyn Kelly this coming Sunday has been met with disgust and disbelief across social and mainstream media.
Now insiders within the network are voicing their discontent with the decision to offer a platform to the full-time conspiracy theorist, who presents the web show Infowars, and professes to believe a whole range of outrageous propositions.
Among Jones' often ridiculous or predictable conspiracy positions - that the U.S. government was behind the 9/11 terror attacks, is spreading chemicals to help turn Americans gay, and that Hillary Clinton is a space alien is the truly disgusting argument that the Sandy Hook massacre, in which 20 children and six adults were killed by a gunman at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, was a synthetic staged set-up.

(1,089 posts)of themselves. Everyone involved with this. This scumbag even admitted that it's all an act, yet they're exposing him to a lot of people who may not have known who he was otherwise.
Frankly, anyone who thought this was a good idea should be fired.

(15,939 posts)How would he "know" this? Of course he probably still using his Magic 8 Ball to guide him through his conspiracy. And how can anyone portray him in a negative light when that is where he chooses to live. He lives in the Negative Light!
But this was one of my thoughts, what if Megyn makes him look like the total crackpot he is?

(21,946 posts)Put some class in your shows. Alex Jones/Megyn Kelly is not the way to do it.
Anyone who called the massacre at Newton, Connecticut "staged" only deserves to go back under the rock he came out from under. Same for Kelly who has pushed propaganda for years on Fox news..
You can take Kelly out of Fox but you can't take Fox out of Kelly, as MSNBC is learning about Greta. I wouldn't watch either one of them if they had the only 2 shows on the t.v. machine.

I'll make a prediction - this wasn't a good move for either of the parties
I'm no TV executive (they never make mistakes) but...
For her
We all know she was in a toxic situation, of her own choosing - she had other offers when she decided to go into broadcasting, so she had to get out. NBC is archenemy #1 for Fox viewers so expect almost no carry over audience. Trying to position herself as one of the top echelon of newscasters is a stretch but you have to take that leap I guess. It's a leap.
For NBC
Head to head against 60 Minutes? With basically a summer time launch? That's a big leap.
If you are watching TV and that stopwatch starts clicking you are staying in to see the teasers. 60 Minutes is still the Cadillac of TV news magazines. Different reporters, different stories. 60 pioneered the immediate intro long before Seinfeld did for sitcoms which is now the norm.
I think NBC is under appreciating the carryover from the flagship O'Reilly show. If you'd sit and listen to Hannity, you'd listen to anything.
The camera loves her and she is bright. Getting Putin - who is like a baby pigeon to America, we know he exists but we never actually see him - is a huge scoop. I may watch or watch video simply to observe him. She may have a big first night or two or three and her show will make money but I don't think this is what NBC hopes it will be.
Time will tell. tick tick tick tick

(58,785 posts)We tend to forget that most people have absolutely no idea who this is or that our dingdong president listens to him. Many tens of millions hear parts of the rumors spread and have no idea what to think. Their funds of knowledge mostly empty and/or filled with trash and about as useful for sifting what they hear as a bag of broken hammers.
But will Kelly and the network that hired this amoral predator out of Fox be the ones to do it?

(182,800 posts)Look at how Trump was wall to wall on TV which, to me, was a major reason the election ended like it did.
Giving this scumbag airtime is completely indefensible.

(13,305 posts)She's a wretched right wing Fox news shill who saw the writing on the wall and then tried to pretend to be "fair" by criticizing Trump and then jump on the anti-Ailes bandwagon when she saw other people doing all the heavy lifting and taking the heavy fire.

(82,849 posts)If you want to expose the emptiness that is Alex Jones and Infowars, it's possible to do that using strictly his own material that's already out there in the public sphere. Then talk to some of the victims of his shenanigans; you can start with the survivors of Sandy Hook.
Instead, NBC will offer America a prime time slice of Jones for 13 or 18 minutes or longer. Their argument for redeeming this ugly feature? Megyn Kelly will contort her immobile facial features into her best frown, and perhaps a teeny-weeny ladylike gasp at the horrid things Jones said. Only slightly less effective than the efforts of the Judean People's Front Crack Suicide Squad:

(7,754 posts)normalize disgusting, bullying, hateful people like Putin and Alex Jones that I am turning them off for good. Pointed out that I am 68 years old and have watched NBC for many years but this is a step too far. Chasing money at the expense of hurting the nation is just too much and is unacceptable.
