Definition

The 2010 Affordable Care Act (ACA) set forth the following ten categories of essential health benefits,[2][3] at Section 1302(b)(1) of the ACA, codified at 42 U.S.C. § 18022(b):[4]

Ambulatory patient services. [outpatient care]
Emergency services.
Hospitalization. [inpatient care]
Maternity and newborn care
Mental health and substance use disorder services, including behavioral health treatment.
Prescription drugs.
Rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices.
Laboratory services
Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management;
Pediatric services, including oral and vision care.

Health insurance plans must cover these benefits i.e. they must cap people´s out-of-pocket spending and must not limit annual and lifetime coverage.[5].

They are trying to sell this to young people on the assumption that they never get sick so they only need catastrophic coverage for car crashes. Common sense says this is just short sighted and irresponsible. How many lives are saved when all those 20 somethings get screened for major health problems?

How many of them would just ignore health problems to save money, until it's too late? There's no way to predict when cancer or some other disease strikes, and when it does these junk insurance plans are useless and that means the taxpayers are paying much higher bills for their care. This was one of the problems Obamacare eliminated!
