A bankrupt Republican Party created Donald Trump

There was a reason so many Americans chose someone like Donald Trump.

It was because their Party had failed them in so many areas that they felt like they needed a wholesale change in Washington and in our government. In hindsight, it was a dangerous and deluded gamble by a large number within the Republican Party. They voted for Trump because they were offered nothing from their political Party. They knew that Trump was lewd and crude and immoral, yet they still voted for him.

They believed that their Party was not doing enough to counter Barack Obama and the Democrats. They were spurred on by the right-wing media. Eventually, they gave up on their Party and our system of government.

Because they thought we needed big change in Washington. They were turned off by the first black President, Barack Hussein Obama, and they thought that he was not born in this country. Most of them thought that because of the actions and lies of one person - Donald Trump. It was he that sent an investigative team to Hawaii to find all those secrets about Barack Obama. If the truth be known, he never had an investigative team. He did what he always does. He lied.

A Republican Party, devoid of any ideas to help the people, had become nothing but an opposition Party to the status quo. Now they have been put in charge of our entire government and Donald Trump is their Leader. Since they are devoid of ideas, they have no choice but to follow the disastrous, narcissistic tyrant. The voters are stuck with a no-return policy. In their land of delusion, it is always somebody else's fault.

1. I believe that the GOP became a 100% criminal organization in the 90's.

Ronald Reagan had a vision for America, even if you think it was profoundly wrong. What was Dubya's or Newt's vision beyond lining their friends' pockets and sticking to their enemies? Now we've sunk so low that Trump doesn't even bother to pretend.

He could have run just as easily as a dem, but realized all the low IQ/EQ voters were on the right. He just played to their emotions and won. Bigly.

5. The GOP didn't create Trump - they didn't even want him

However he proved that he could beat all of the typical "clowns" who wanted to run in 2015-16. I suggest you take a look at Matt Taibbi's hilariously interesting book "Insane Clown President: Dispatches from the 2016 Circus." I'm actually reading it right now.

There are many weekly articles printed in Rolling Stone Magazine that Taibbi has written about Trump and the craziness of 2016 primaries and election. I'm pretty sure you can read those for free on Rolling Stone's website. Excepts from his articles were the basis for this book.

My point is that the GOP was at first horrified at the idea of Donald Trump being their candidate. With Mitch McConnell being the lone exception, most Republicans wanted ANYBODY other than Trump. So how come Trump became their candidate? Well that's a long and interesting story, and we're still working out the details.

There were a lot of bumps in the road but Mitch McConnell took them out one by one. Trump just kept on winning the primaries (most of them) and burying his opponents. McConnell made everything else happen in the GOP. With the help of Putin of course.

8. Excellent post, kentuck! FakeNoose - I think it is fair to say the repuglicans destroyed

honest discussion. They created the atmosphere that allowed a slime-mold monster like trump and most of the rest of their candidate field to live. In real nature and with normal human defenses, these parasites and infections would be fought off.

I think we should be very quick to point at the backers of the poor party of Lincoln that usurped the platform with money and appealed to the greed and lust for power that seems to be prevalent in right-wing conservatives.

I totally agree.

I grew up in the 50's and 60's and I remember the days when the Republicans were patriotic and good people. For long time I was an independent voter because I truly believed there might be a time that I might vote for a Republican. I didn't want to be locked into either party because they both had their good points/bad points.

The first election I was old enough to vote was 1972, well of course I couldn't vote for Nixon. In every election since then I've never found a reason to vote for a Republican, they've all been lying weasels one after the other. Finally in 2008 I really wanted to vote for Hillary in the primary and I decided it was time to join the Democratic Party.

I voted for Hillary in the primary and as we all know she didn't get the nomination in 2008. But I have no regrets, I truly believe there's no reason to be an independent now. I will never in my life ever want to vote for a Republican candidate. They have no candidate who deserves my vote. I hope that Party goes down the tubes for good.

13. I wonder about the millennials who have never known an honest repuglican party.

I'm probably at the same age as you and yes I remember many Republicans who defended the values of this country as well as (and many times better) the Democrats.

However I also know that my views of history and politics are colored by the situations as I grow up, more so than reading about the Dixiecrats, or the Party of Lincoln.

How will the 20-30-40 year olds view politics as it has been projected through the lenses of extremely partisan sound bites? In prior generations these sound bites generally had to pass some type of truthiness test. Now, once someone has locked into a particular channel (broadly speaking) they may never need to or want to look at alternate views.

Remember the FCC (I think) requirement that all political opinions have room for a dissenting viewpoint? With cable news this has disappeared.

Let's hope that the millennials are a lot more open and smarter than the media empires that huckster their viewpoints! And contrary to what the RW-media spouts, real media actually wants to hear multiple viewpoints in a civil setting.

and it's all about destroying anything "liberal" and restoring white, male Christian rule, which, as we're told, was when America was great.

Also, I think some of them voted for Trump just as a protest vote - never imagining he'd ever actually win. Those folks are regretting their choice now and I believe we see some evidence of this when they poll Trump voters.

Those people are persuadable re: next election.
