We've been conditioned to expect this behavior from him as normal. We shouldn't.

(And by "we", I mean the greater American people, not necessarily just the people here at DU with heightened awareness.)

If you stop and think about it, if Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton were to fire off just a single tweet like the multiple ranting tweets we get from the Madman on a daily basis, we'd all be scratching our heads. It would be major news on every network.

If Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, as President, were to wake up one morning and start attacking the media by calling it "Fake News", or calling some political adversary by some infantile nickname we'd all be seriously questioning their sanity, wondering if they've lost it, wondering if they took a hit on the head the night before.

And I don't just mean Republicans looking to gain a partisan advantage.

I mean us Democrats, too. If Obama or Clinton one day started off the morning by going after "Goofy Mitch McConnell" or claiming the media is all stacked out to get him/her, I'd legitimately be concerned for his/her well-being. I'd want to know why the sudden devolution in rhetoric.

Of course, they don't act like that, because they are rational, highly intelligent people who are calculating in their actions and decisions.

But because for the past two years nearly every single day this is the sort of behavior we can expect from Donald Trump, increasingly so many of us just write it off as "Trump being Trump" and give it a shrug or a nervous laugh.

He shouldn't be held to a different standard because this is somehow normal behavior for him. Because what's normal for him isn't normal for any rational functioning human being. And it certainly isn't normal for someone in charge of the most powerful country in the world.

that are either conservative, libertarian, or just right of center aren't losing their minds.

The far right ones think it's great and the ones closer to the middle are encouraging everyone to give him a chance, or maybe it won't be so bad.

It is definitely bizzaroland.

Each and everyone has compromised their integrity and exposed their hypocrisy.
They lost it when Micheal O exposed a shoulder and now have a first lady who poses naked on her husbands plane.

No one, certainly not the wackadoodles on the right, would have tolerated this kind of crap from Pres Obama or Sec Clinton. And yet, this is just treated as standard fare for Trump. It's juvenile, it's appalling, it's embarrassing but sadly, I don't have an answer for how to push back against it because it has become so normalized. Hell the man has thrown shade on the person appointed to carry out an investigation into his dealings and the media responded with a gigantic "meh", like that was no big deal. What the hell is it going to take for the media and public at large to push back against this asshole??

I just think of how relatively normal life was like only a year ago and compare it to today and it's madness.

I feel like we are being conditioned and it's only a matter of time (once Trump is gone) before we start accepting the GOP's agenda under Pence or some other Christian nut-case politician because they will seem normal compared to Trump.

They don't want to lose access to power, so they largely go along with it.

Our government has done some nasty things around the world, supporting tyrannies over democracies as long as they will be more compliant to our corporate interests and the like, but even the most liberal media helps frame the USA as the "good guys" even in those situations.

Domestically? They tend to portray labor unions as the bullies. If there's a protest, they tend to spend far more time focusing on the most unruly people participating. On and on.

Other world leaders treat him like the pariah he is. And yet that is another reason Drumpf's admirers love him because they say those other countries don't matter. It's all about making America great again, and the fact that Dolt 45 is willing to step on toes to do that makes his supporters giddy.

SAD!

I believe that the media has become more interested in entertaining it's audience than providing actual news.

If you watch news sources like PBS or BBC they to not broadcast Trump's Jerry Springer Show on a minute to minute basis, they only report the news.

The OED gives as a meaning "Having a bearing or demeanour befitting a president; dignified; confident. Also: appropriate to a president; stately; impressive", dating from 1804. Imagine what a child now 5 years old may think about a 'president' if Trump hangs on for 4 years.

Granted, their governance was always a weird crazy quilt, unlike this country's traditionally staid approach, but sadly when the people excuse vulgarity and outright borderline psychopathic behaviors they've put their own stubborn ideology ahead of rational thought. Or they are simply buying into a cult of personality. I actually think this orange charlatan fulfills the desire of their collective id's. His rants satisfy their basest, fundamental psychological needs and desires. Sadly, I don't think these people will ever desert him. Then there are the others among this group, the McConnells, Ryans, Cornyns, etc., whose only master is pure, naked, unfettered avarice. These Frankensteins have empowered this monstrosity even if they didn't actually make him from used parts and they'll allow him to remain because he suits their purposes. If they wanted him gone, he'd be gone by now. It's obvious they don't and he's not going anywhere.

if "we" do it, the entire Democratic party comes down on the person, en masse, like a pack of wolves, with the RW & M$M right behind, so the person is "double- and triple-teamed", and collapses under the assault. Then in the aftermath people ask "well why don't the Democrats 'hit back???!11!11!!'".

Yet when "they" (Drumpf) do it, then they are high-fiving the utterance and each other and supporting every single idiotic, prevaricative, and craven piece of bullshit that is spouted, without fail, and with few dissenters.

Hearings, investigations, admonishments from Congress...those things only apply when Democrats are in the White House...this has been true for 20+ years now...

The GOP decided after Watergate and Iran-Contra that they were no longer going to participate in or allow to go on any investigations that shed light on Republican misconduct without at the VERY LEAST complaining about it while comparing it to unrelated Democratic-centric investigations...

Just look at the trends from Whitewater to Benghazi and e-mails....the GOP gets the vapors about ANYTHING the D's do and are totally blind as long as you're a Republican...its sickening and hyper-partisan, but its also as predictable as the sunrise.

Remember, It's OK If You Are A Republican...it's their mantra and their raison d'etre.
