School bullies are quoting President Trump to harass their classmates

By Michael Martin at Metro

"SNIP...........

It comes with the territory: The most powerful man in the country is exalted as the ultimate role model for the nation's youth. Then came Donald Trump, and his daily cavalcade of racist remarks are serving as a kind of unfolding Fisher-Price My First Bullying Kit for kids. Teachers nationwide are dismayed, unsure of how to discipline bullies who are using the president's own words.

There have been at least 50 incidents, across 26 states, in which elementary-school kids have used the president's own words against classmates to harass them, BuzzFeed News reports. “This is my 21st year in education and I’ve never seen a situation like this before,” said Brent Emmons, principal of Hood River Middle School in Oregon. “It’s a delicate tightrope to walk. It’s not my role to tell people how to think about political policies, but it is my role to make sure every kid feels safe at the school.”

Some of the reported incidents:

— In the hallway of a high school in San Mateo County, California, a white student told two biracial girls to “go back home to whatever country you're from.”

— In a classroom in Brea, California, a white eighth-grader told a black classmate, “Now that Trump won, you're going to have to go back to Africa, where you belong.”

have been told to blacks for many decades by whites, despite the fact that by the middle of the 20th century, most blacks had families who had been here well before those whites uttering such nonsense. I.e., before "Ellis Island" existed, where millions upon millions of Europeans disembarked, and certainly before the Civil War.

horrid stuff was said in the past doesn't excuse Trump for bringing it back.

7. It's not that what was said "in the past" suddenly stopped being said.

It has been ongoing for over a century and really hasn't stopped.

Looking at the other examples, the comments are pretty much on par for what has been said to POC over and over, including before Drumpf (and was especially bubbled up with the election of Barack Obama). And unfortunately this was because it has been in the American culture for a long time, which was (and still is) rife with horrid stereotypes, many of which were introduced in children's cartoons. The main difference being yelling "Donald Trump" or "Build a wall".

Racial and ethnic bullying and name-calling is a spectator sport in the U.S.A.

After talking to our Grand Kids over the week end, discovered two of them have experienced this same insult during the last month of School. And these two mild mannered white Kids would not hurt a flea. The two Bullies happened to transfer in from a previous School they attended. Found out they were Bullied big time by these two at that School. This crap has to stop.

when we heard about the first Bulling. When their Parents found out we knew, they moved them to alternative Schools that have very tough discipline and any violations are dealt with in a adult setting. These two Bullies are now in Juvenile Justice settings.

I found that stopped bullying quickly and effectively when I was in school.

11. I did too - especially being female. It's quite embarrassing for a boy to be beat up by a girl.

I like to think I cut down on bullying a lot in my elem. school because they knew if was in earshot I would be humiliating them. My brother got picked on a lot and that would really piss me off. I used to be about 5'4" when I was 12.

12. True here in Bergen County NJ..

This happened weekly in my daughter's middle school. Always the same group of 20+ boys shouting misogynistic and racial threats to girls and students of different backgrounds. Teachers ignored (I am a teacher at a different school) and I reported this to the principal- the boys were spoken to and it continued. I continue to call weekly and have spoken to the board of ed. The 8th grade trip to Washington was especially brutal with all of them buying those stupid hats.

Before you say to tell the parents- that is where they learn it from. I am surrounded by deplorables in $700k homes here in wealthy Bergen county. Included are my parents, siblings, & neighbors on all sides (even the woman who cleans my house who is an immigrant from Eastern Europe).

As the campaign was unfolding last year, all of them admitted racist beliefs which drove them to T. rump. They all hated the fact that the President was African-American. They pass these beliefs on to their children who are not afraid to vocalize in school. These families are very wealthy and somewhat educated (but they do not value education- sports takes precedence)

Luckily I'm a special ed teacher and find solace at school with like-minded peers...sorry for the rant sometimes I feel very much alone in this red corner of a blue state
