DirecTV to Drop 26 Viacom Channels at Midnight on Tuesday, July 10

http://blog.viacom.com/2012/07/directv-to-drop-26-viacom-channels-at-midnight-on-tuesday-july-10/

As of midnight on Tuesday, July 10, DirecTV will drop 26 Viacom channels, including Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, BET, VH1, CMT, Spike TV, TV Land and more. Viacom is the most watched programmer on DirecTV. Nickelodeon is the most watched cable network on DirecTV. We regret that DirecTV refuses to consider a fair deal that recognizes the value of Viacom programming. We urge DirecTV customers to call 800-531-5000 or visit www.whendirectvdrops.com and demand that DirecTV put its customers first, and keep Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, BET and all of Viacom’s channels.

so many TV providers had so many fights with channel owners. It seems like a weekly thing now that at least one of our channels is being threatened to be dropped and its ridiculous.

As noted, they have until midnight Eastern time to come up with an agreement.

I hope Viacom folds on the table - 30% increase is too much.

As I understand it, DirecTV counteroffered at 7% increase - no cost passed to the customer.

My son will be pissed if he doesn't get his daily dose of Bubble Guppies or Team Umizoomi from Nick.

and now DirecTV threatening the same action with Viacom.

Don't know all the dirty details but it's still a shame.

They ran a promo for the new season at least once an hour, which ended with "Available on Cable and Satellite. Not available on Dish."

in a satisfying way. I hate it when I get hooked into a series and then it gets cancelled with a cliffhanger, like The Event a couple of years ago. I was really getting into that whole alien invasion thing, and the political twist was interesting.

Oh well...

( I paid for out of market games) I'm done with satellite and cable. Going to get an apple tv, up my netflix account and be done with it. And I'm old. My kids won't ever pay for cable or satellite. Cable and satellite are doomed unless the go ala carte. But I'm a believer in "twighlight of the elites." The plutocrats are just not very good at their job.

I just called direct TV and complained to them about Viacom. Right now I am looking to contact them directly. If you want to call and support Direct TV, please do. The lady I am talking to told me they are getting a lot of dis=satisfied customers calling. They could use the support.

Viacom Inc. reported Thursday that its latest quarterly earnings soared 53%. The media company's popular cable channels, including MTV and Nickelodeon, continued to be revenue engines

Viacom Inc. CEO Philippe P. Dauman topped the list. He received compensation valued at $84.3 million, more than double his 2009 pay, thanks largely to equity awards in a renewed contract.

And they want to increase their rates, in effect raising OUR rates?

17. Will they pass the savings on to their subscribers?

I have Dish Network. They cut my ESPN Classic, IFC, AMC, and Sundance but the rates still go up. They just increased my bill by $1 a month, in fact, while cutting some of the channels I was receiving. Plus, cable movie channels keep offering worse and worse movies. I get the full Package of HBO channels, Showtime channels, Max channels, Encore channels, Starz channels, and several others. It seems that they are purchasing the bottom of the barrel in the way of movies that they run, showing more and more of the same old chestnuts, often showing them twice or more in the same day, and even going off-air at times so that I'm paying for a blank screen. And it seems to be taking longer and longer for more recent films to reach the cable movie channels, as they've added such things as EPIX channels that get the movies after a year and the pay-per-view run and Dish wants more money for those channels as well. I'm getting fed up with this and find myself reading more or watching movies on the Internet.
