By Alexandra Petri | June 30 at 12:31 PM
I stand with my colleagues in Congress to say: The presidents tweet is beneath the dignity of the office.
This is not making America great.
The president has at last done the unthinkable: He has insulted a morning television personality in crude and ghastly terms and I must in consequence of this hideous and vile breach of the dignity of the office withdraw none of my support from his legislative agenda. (If you can call it a legislative agenda and not a ragtag collection of bad ideas quickly stapled together with a dead pigeon in the middle.)
His remark about Mika Brzezinski is absolutely shameful and I do not stand with him, except insofar as it is necessary to stand with him so that we can make sure infants get access to pesticides, as the Founders would have wished.

(7,640 posts)I will say that it realistically depicts the ultra-hypocrisy and preposterousness of our "so-called" speaker of the house

(4,187 posts)The OP should have made this clearer.
ETA: I see that the OP *did* make it quite clear. People just look at the title and the picture and draw their own conclusion. I guess it's too hard to actually read a few lines of text.

(4,187 posts)I was too harsh in my posts. People don't always have time to read an entire article. When I first looked at it, I also thought it was by Paul Ryan. It's only when I clicked on it and started reading that I realized it was satire.
Somehow, the picture draws one's attention, which makes it easy to miss the author's name. And many of the sentences sound like they might have been written by Ryan. It would make a lot of sense, after all, for Ryan to distance himself from Trump's tweets without denouncing his right-wing ideas. The important point, though, is that Ryan has *not* made a statement about the tweets. The reason I'm annoyed with the OP is that it actually makes Ryan look better than he is by giving the impression that Ryan has the decency to denounce Trump's attacks on the media.

(4,187 posts)As the OP indicates, the piece is by Alexandra Petri. And if you read carefully, you will realize it's satire.

(4,187 posts)preferably in capital letters and set off with several stars, to indicate that this is not actually by Paul Ryan and that it's satire? Clearly, most DUers don't have the patience to read a few lines of text, and they go away with the false impression that Paul Ryan has actually said something to distance himself from Trump's tweets. He has not.
