of having an obsession with the British royal family. She watches a lot of Netflix shows about the Queen and the royals throughout history.
I told her we now have our own royal family so she doesn't need the Brits anymore.

She has a lot of burden on her now as leader of the free world. Hopefully President Macron helps her out. I see a new Franco-German Alliance forming very shortly.

I immediately thought of the European Coal and Steel Community that came out of the Paris Treaty after WW2. It was the beginnings of the EU, built on the most important commodities at that time. And look how far they have come since then! Yet what is tRump worried about in this country? Coal. He's back in the 50s while every other nation is looking toward the future. Angela is probably thinking, "Ivanka would have made the perfect tsarina."

Merkel and Macron have been in constant touch almost since before Macron took office. Europe is VERY concerned about the current geopolitical situation, and Merkel has stated out loud in just about so many words that the days when Germany could rely solely on its alliance with the USA are now past them. She didn't even have to say out loud that this new situation was solely due to Trump's assuming the presidency. Everyone in Europe knows and understands that.

A Franco-German alliance is the logical answer. If the Brits hadn't pulled out of the EU, they would have been the third leg to stand on. Considering the crushing EU bureaucracy, and the fact that it needed a drastic wake up call because it was only getting worse, I understand, even sympathize with their decision to leave, but since the decision was taken without the support of a convincing majority of Britons, I wouldn't have done it or allowed it to proceed. Cameron was mistaken to let a simple majority of the voters participating in one single such referendum have the only say in such a vital decision.
