That's when they changed the platform re sanctions on Russia.
And the GOP went along with that as they all knew what was going on.
And that is treason.

(13,081 posts)As much as I'd like it to be. The GOP just won't let it happen. They still control all three branches of government. They don't really give a shit about their brand, either. After Nixon, Iran/Contra, impeaching the most popular modern president, 9/11, Iraq, Katrina. They'll just keep conning their way into power by convincing the little guy that rich people are on their side.
My own personal best guess is that after Trump's usefulness is at an end (which looks like it'll be sooner than expected), Trump is impeached and everyone gets a nice round of pardons.
In fact, he might just start issuing pardons today. There's nothing stopping him. It doesn't look good, but neither does firing the FBI director or licking Putin's jack boots.

The efforts should be on trying to get a honest election next time if that is even possible now.

(13,081 posts)In fact, I think the whole reason Ivanka and Jared were given official "jobs" was to provide them with some semblance of executive privilege. I think as long as they work for the WH, they can't be tried on the state charges, or at least they can muddy the jurisdictional waters for years.

If Pence goes first, Trump appoints new VP. Won't be Ryan.
If tRump & Pence go together or before their VP pick is confirmed, then Ryan gets drafted. Pretty pickle for him to be in. If he declines, then his own 2020 or 2024 Pres campaign is probably dead in the water (refusal to serve country). He is likely aiming for 2024.

God only knows how wide and deep this corruption goes. Ryan is in a
CYA mood right now.
How did McConnell know if he waited until after the election he would have
somebody else to vote for for SCOTUS?

Paul Ryan & Republican Establishment Used Hacked Info From Russia Against Democrats:
Let's not forget that a super PAC tied to Paul Ryan used material provided by Russia's hacking of the DNC and DCCC.
It was known that Russia had stolen material from the DNC and DCCC and a Paul Ryan Super PAC and as well as other Republican groups used it.
It wasn't just Hillary Clinton being attacked. It wasn't just Trump benefiting. There's potentially more collusion than just that between Trump's team and Russia.

(23,975 posts)I am absolutely certain of this, especially in regard to McConnell. That rat bastad absolutely KNEW the fix was in, which is why he was so resolute in denying Merrick Garland a hearing. Even as deceitful and duplicitous a creep as McConnell would probably have had a hard time denying a SCOTUS appointment to HRC for 4 years. I'm sure he would have tried, but to stall for an entire presidential term would have been difficult, I would think.
I detest that SOB.

"A month before Donald Trump clinched the Republican nomination, one of his closest allies in Congress House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy made a politically explosive assertion in a private conversation on Capitol Hill with his fellow GOP leaders: that Trump could be the beneficiary of payments from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Theres two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump, McCarthy (R-Calif.) said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016, exchange, which was listened to and verified by The Washington Post. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia.
House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) immediately interjected, stopping the conversation from further exploring McCarthys assertion, and swore the Republicans present to secrecy.
Before the conversation, McCarthy and Ryan had emerged from separate talks at the Capitol with Ukrainian Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman, who had described a Kremlin tactic of financing populist politicians to undercut Eastern European democratic institutions.".....(more)

(17,984 posts)I think turtle man was the strategist/main enabler in congress. He had to let Ryan in on the scheme. Since Ryan has no backbone or brains of his own, he just nodded. I'm not willing to let any other GOP senator off the hook entirely, but I do wonder how many of them actually wondered what was going on with Garland. Maybe they believed they were just continuing their party line of obstruction.

Thus by date of that first email, about a week after Republicon Convention, there had already been negotiations and agreements for that support.
The quid pro quo was the change to the Republican platform regarding sanctions against Russia and that there would be ongoing efforts by tRump to lift the sanctions.
