I just read this is a Slate article:
If nothing else, Republican behaviorthe extent to which the party is still powering through a hyper-partisan agenda, even as evidence of something untoward mountsis an implicit statement that foreign interference is an acceptable path to partisan gain. At the risk of cliché, it normalizes outside meddling in American democracy. And the 2016 election wont even be the end of Russian interference in our elections. There is real potential for further, more damaging hacking aimed at often-obsolete local election infrastructure. Preventing this is of national concern and requires cooperation from both sides at all levels of government. It requires both parties to show a commitment to the ideals of American democracy.

So when I read the above, I asked myself, what could be so important to them that they were willing to go this route in the first place, and for those who are not complicit, to keep making excuses? Just what is it they hope to gain? More money? More power?
I guess I am falling for the trap I so often warn people about: they live in a parallel universe and it doesn't work to apply my values and my logic to their universe because all the rules and all the values are different there.

(21,946 posts)republican congresscritters in line. They would know they got hacked too, and as much as they denied it, I suspect they did.
That info would be blackmail material. No wonder they don't even peep at the transgressions by the white house.

(16,858 posts)If you read that platform, especially in light of Trump's proposed "budgets", its crystal clear what the GOP end game is here. The GOP are puppets of the Koch's and many other wealthy puppet masters. Their goal is to undo every single progressive advancement of the 20th Century from Teddy Roosevelt's regulations and national parks, to the new deal, the great society and the ACA. That is their goal and they're winning behind the scenes thanks to the ridiculous joke of a president that's keeping the focus of the nation on his corruption and outrageous antics while they're robbing us blind behind the scenes.

(4,395 posts)It's been 20 years since they had the numbers to win without cheating.
And the more the country progresses to the left and becomes less religious, better educated and more tolerant and diverse, the more desperate they will be to rewrite the rules of the game so that they can stay in power.
What's at stake is the last few drips of easy profit before climate change and peak oil force a radical restructuring of the global economy. They also know that globalisation is inevitable and they want it to be on their terms - authoritarian-based Wild West capitalism.

(36,461 posts)McConnell, Ryan, Pence, some state govs, a whole slew of GOP deplorables. They know if they go after the Con, he will fink on all of them. Plus maybe they can pass their tax reform agenda in all this chaos & maybe, just maybe, if the IC doesn't act quickly enough, they can actually put more malfeasance into our electoral process, thus guaranteeing one party rule. It could happen. I know Watergate took two years, but we don't have two years. The Con is taking a wreaking ball to our institutions.

Before this last election I didn't think they would actively commit treason with a hostile foreign dictator to accomplish this evil deed but I now see that the traitorous republican filth will even go that far.
And every republican/conservative/religious right voter with damn few exceptions are backing Trump's treason 1000%!
