2. I've seen them feed manatees at the zoo.

They throw a whole head of lettuce in the water. The manatee bobs up and down with its mouth open, taking bites from it. Eventually it shatters and the leaves float on the water and it's easier for them to eat. Thanks for posting this photo...it brought back some fond memories.
