The funny thing: In 1999, the White House was embroiled in impeachment. The economy was healthy.

President Clinton's approval rating during that time--over seven years after his honeymoon period and on the cusp of a new election--was well into the 60% levels.

The "scandal" that surrounded the White House, although embarrassing to the President on a personal level, was so frivolous and pointless that the American people didn't care. They looked at their wallets and they deemed the President to be doing the right things where it mattered. The fact that the President had a personal yet consensual affair and didn't want to cop to it during the course of a politically motivated lawsuit didn't matter to the country. And it shouldn't have mattered.

Flash forward to 2017--Donald Trump, a mere six months after inauguration (the honeymoon period where presidents are typically at their most popular level), is embroiled in scandal and there's perpetual talk about possible impeachment. The economy--knock on wood--is still healthy. (Thanks, Obama!)

But here, Trump's approval ratings are in the mid 30% level.

Tell me again that the American people don't care about what happened with Trump and Russia. Tell me again that it's a distraction that we ought not to bother ourselves with.

This is a real, bonafide scandal, not partisan nonsense.

What happened with Trump and Russia matters to the country. And it should matter to the country.
