Russian mobsters allegedly stole $230 million and hid some of the cash in New York City real estate. Also sure to come up was the suspicious death of the Russian lawyer who exposed the alleged fraud, though US prosecutors weren't alleging that the defendants were behind it.
The trial was set to start on Monday, but late Friday night, federal prosecutors in New York announced they settled the case with Prevezon, the company accused of buying up "high-end commercial space and luxury apartments" with laundered money.
The abrupt conclusion has some involved in the trial wondering why this Russian investigation had been cut short.

(16,076 posts)2. Because that's why Sessions met with Russians!
During the campaign, Sessions had almost as many meetings with the Russians, as Flynn did! I believe he was offered the Attorney General position as long as he would, go along with removing Preet Bharara, the US attorney for the Southern District of New York!
It was Bharara that brought the charges against Prevezon, and I think when Trump was trying to contact him privately, it was to convince him to settle the case in favor of Prevezon!
And when Bharara informed his superior, Attorney General Sessions, of what Trump was trying to do...he was asked to resign, he refused so he was fired! Sessions then ordered Bharara's temporary replacement to settle the case and Prevezon was fined 5.9 million dollars, and walked away the winner!
