Paul McCartney sticks it to Westboro Baptist Church.

After perfecting the pop ballad in the 1960s, Sir Paul McCartney has now mastered the art of 21st Century trolling.

The former Beatle posted the below doctored image of the Westboro Baptist Church, after they protested outside his show in Kansas this week.

The 75-year-old rocker thanked the protesters for their "warm welcome!" by changing some of the more offensive slogans to his own song titles including All You Need Is Love and We Can Work It Out.

Who said you can't teach an old dog new digital tricks.

Which is a translation from the original Aramaic.

With that many intermediaries, it might just as well have come out sounding like Dr. Seuss.

This garden is not my pet peeve.
I do not want your apple, Eve.
That snake is no one that I trust.
This whole deal might be a bust.
You don't want it, so you say.
You might like it! Try! You may!
If we can just get back to sex,
Get that serpent off our necks,
I will try this piece of fruit
And take a great big bite, to boot.
Say, I like your apple Eve!
It's no longer my pet peeve
But there's no time to get bored
I think we just pissed off the Lord *

etc etc etc.

When our church held its annual conference in Kansas City in 2000, the fine folks of Westboro popped by to spread their special brand of hate and discontent, and several of their picketers were quite young. On the theory that bigotry is thirsty work, we bought a couple dozen cold drinks from a street vendor and offered the drinks to the protesters. Some of them took the drinks and were civil; others refused and remained openly hostile, which we returned with unfailing kindness and smiling indulgence.

I don't know how long they had planned to demonstrate, but they were gone within 20 minutes. They didn't seem to know how to handle a non-rageful response.

Their whole schtick is to incite people to attack them physically, after which a squad of lawyers within the family then sue the person and hope to get them to settle out of court.

Lather, rinse, and repeat. They go around the country doing this.

And live just south of it.

You're correct. We've learned not to interact unless we know damn sure what we're doing will not interfer with any rights or laws. The Phelps clan has made millions from their lawsuits. Most of their protests are in hope of just one person making a threat, one officer not offering the protection they believe they deserve, one city infringing in any way with their right to assemble and freedom of speech rights. They want conflict because conflict will offer opportunities for a lawsuit.

Fred was clever but Margie really knows how to push buttons. Ignoring them is the kiss of death. They thrive on publicity.

Matthew, Chapter 6

5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But Westboro pickets in front of funerals for Veterans that have died in Irag, that is very unpopular around here. They have those Biker guys surround churches to shield the family from the Westboro nuts. That makes them (the Westboro guys) unpopular. And they LOVE Paul McCartney

Paul is at home one evening, and a young man knocks at his door, and when asked his name, says he is Jesus. Paul is doubtful, but unwilling to turn him away just in case. So Paul invites him in, makes him a cup of tea, and later takes him along to a Beatles rehearsal. In the later 1960s, this young man could have been confused by drugs, or a clever fan, but on the other hand, you never know. When I was a practicing Christian long ago, we believed it was our task in life to try to behave like Jesus, and perhaps someone might become interested in our religion. Standing about with accusatory signs would have been frowned upon, as giving exactly the wrong impression of who we were.

have nice looking young men and women in skimpy bikinis and speedos parading back-and-forth or even flirting with them.

Surely they would feel the need to flee from the temptation.
