When he fires Mueller and issues pardons (not if....Trump knows he is doomed otherwise), we will probably not actually need to mobilize, because massive protests will spontaneously erupt all over the country, making the Vietnam War demonstrations look minor in comparison. And let's not forget, the Vietnam War demonstrations were anything but minor. However, those protests were not centered around literally saving our democracy. If this happens, I think we will see a massive crowd converge on the White House almost instantly....there will be tens of thousands, which will grow daily, shouting in unison "Lock him up!", as will demonstrators country wide. Under this scenario, the only way our "president" would be able to get out of the White House would be by helicopter. However, it will not matter where he is in the country, the crowds will be there doing their duty. Yeah....if he heads to Mar A Lago, the people will also be there en masse.
It could be a lot like Tienanmen Square, except our military would not murder and assault the citizenry. Even if Trump could get them to do that (and again, that won't happen), if the streets are filled, there is nothing the military could do. As has been seen in other countries, starting with the former Russian satellites, and ending with the Ukraine protests, you cannot defeat a massive crowd of citizens mobilized in the streets, as long as enough people continue to hold their positions.
We cannot let this scumbag get away with ending the rule of law in our country. Think about all the men and women killed or horribly injured while protecting the nation for over two hundred years. If we let Trump get away with his lawlessness, then we will in effect be betraying those brave souls.
Be ready to mobilize and resist to the end! I think we will need it.

If you believe believe Trump is above such retaliation tactics, I've got some DeVoss Amway products to tell you about.

He lays out the sad but probable outcome as this situation continues for years.

There were many reasons to be alarmed by the transcript of President Donald Trumps Wednesday interview with The New York Times, but if you drew back the lenses of time and context far enough, it foretold a deeper crisis than the text suggestedone that may be unfolding already.
The scope of that crisis is much clearer now that the Washington Post is reporting that Trump is discussing the possibility of pardoning himself, his family, and his closest aides to short-circuit the sprawling investigation of his campaigns complicity in Russias subversion of the 2016 election. Trumps team is also, according to the Post and another Times story, digging up dirt on the special counsel investigators in an attempt to discredit them.
In light of this dizzying news, its worth returning to the Times interview. Trumps juiciest comments pertained to his attorney general, uber-loyalist Jeff Sessions, whom he resents for recusing from that investigation. But these grievances were already known, as was the fact that Trump has considered terminating Robert Mueller, the man leading the inquiry. What made the Times interview explosive was Trumps suggestion that he would fire Mueller for delving too deeply into his finances.
SCHMIDT: Last thing, if Mueller was looking at your finances and your family finances, unrelated to Russiais that a red line?
HABERMAN: Would that be a breach of what his actual charge is?
TRUMP: I would say yeah. I would say yes.

(11,949 posts)Today I am a social Democrat. I have never protested anything in my life.
If Trump finds a way to fire Mueller(it is not that easy) I will be protesting. And I can afford to go to Washington. And will do so.
There are now 2 groups running the republican party:
Religious nuts who loved democracy then they were the majority. Now that they see their semi-theocracy slipping away they had rather ditch democracy rather than have a nation ruled by people who think they are nutjobs.
Oligarchs who have been trying to take the US back to the 1880 for decades and have finally realized that if they teamed with the Religious nuts they could accomplish their goals.

(1,682 posts)At a moment in which it seems that pardons and firings are likely, we need to be ready, and I mean ready. We need to keep this drumbeat going. Seriously, this is it! He is going to try to make himself immune from all federal laws! He's already shown disdain for the Constitution and the laws of our country.
Look....here's the bottom line: He doesn't give a rat's ass about laws or the Constitution, and he doesn't give a rat's ass if he goes down in history as our first authoritarian president. He DOES give a rat's ass about staying out of prison. To this criminal president who knows that he is caught red handed, ANYTHING is better than prison. He knows that successfully defending his personal freedom is the best that he could hope for, even though doing that would mean that he would go down in infamy for his fascistic ways.
Only we can stop him, and we must be ready! We need to start whipping up the masses to be on guard!
