Among Democrats and progressives, the best way ahead is up for fierce and fractious debate. Some younger voices are shouting louder than others

It has been called the leftwing alternative to Breitbart a subversive, humorous and politics-focused new media presence that has attracted a devoted following on both sides of the Atlantic.
Chapo Trap House has mostly attracted followers of Jeremy Corbyn and Bernie Sanders, but recently it burst into the mainstream US media when a dispute erupted between the podcasts provocative, hard-left commentators and The New Republic, a stately institution of polite neo-liberalism.
As part of a take-down of the dirtbag left, the century-old commentary magazine noted that a phrase used by Chapos Brooklyn-based hosts had prompted outrage in some quarters.
In a recent edition, co-host Will Menaker said not for the first time that Clintonian liberalism was the architect of its own defeat. But get this through your fucking head, he said. You must bend the knee to us. Not the other way around. You have been proven as failures, and your entire worldview has been discredited.

(1,349 posts)Why would anyone want to have anything to do with any form of Breitbart?

(10,014 posts)They employ subversive humor to make their political point. I may not agree with them but they are not like breitbart and they are certainly not Nazis. Only Nazis are like Nazis.

(1,349 posts)the "left wing nazis". From what I've heard, they lack humor and their political point is not so left. I don't agree with them, and my quibble is with the folks who are characterizing them this way, also they're running around attacking progressives by calling them Nazis.
So, these guys are the dirtbag left they claim to be "subversively" skewering with supposed comedy.
They're into the propaganda, the big lies and the nastiness, they're share quite a bit with Breitbart, who are actual nazis.

(10,014 posts)You've heard about the Holocaust?
It is deeply offensive to throw around the word "Nazi" to characterize your political opponent.
Ninsianna
(1,349 posts)and I'm also aware that people who brand themselves and follow the actions, behavior and propaganda of those Germans are alive and well in America, and that they work at Breitbart. It's deeply offensive to ignore self proclaimed nazis whose site carries on the proud tradition of hate and Big Lies and attack those calling Nazis what they are.
It's a uninformed, facile and lazy argument to pretend it's about calling a political opponent names, in fact it rises to the fallacy of ad hominem to be levying that argument against someone who's correctly labeling someone something that they're quite proudly embracing.
Breitbart is a nazi. Neo nazi if you'd like, and if you didn't know that Breitbart is not political opponent, then you should go check out their history and learn how the word "nazi" is fair, accurate and truthful.
Trying to apply Godwin's law here like we're not talking about actual freaking nazis here is odd to say the least, it's 2017, they're flying their Nazi flag with pride, it's deeply offensive to attack someone pointing out simply fact.
These Chapo nuts are doing their level best to be as offensive, divisive and disgusting as Breitbart. They're also not my "political opponents" they're deliberate jerks who are being pretty clear about what they are.

The only thing I'd get down on my knees for these offensive bros is to throw their idiotic tripe in the bottom of the trash.
Imitating the alt-right and their poor excuse for faux journalism is not the way to redeem the Democratic Party . . . It's a way to destroy it and its integrity. Which is what I suspect these yokels are trying to do.
But who's even heard of them anyway? Nice try, Guardian. Really, I'm not sure this isn't a piece of satire.

(15,682 posts)I've about had it with these left wing bros. I am of the mind that if they're behaving like this they are not progressive in any sense.

(4,035 posts)If you are posting on DU, Omaha Steve, that means you supported Hillary in the general, which means you are not pure enough for these "dirtbag leftist", because you took the pragmatic option and voted for someone they hate, Hillary Clinton. That means you have to bend your knee and submit to them.
"On a recent episode of the popular podcast Chapo Trap House, co-host Will Menaker used a memorable metaphor in addressing calls for unity on the left. Republicans in control of politics, thats the problem, he began. However, to the pragmatists out there and the people who dont like purity in politics, yes, lets come together. But get this through your fucking head: You must bend the knee to us. Not the other way around. You have been proven as failures, and your entire worldview has been discredited. You bend the knee to us and then lets fucking work together to defeat these things, not with fucking means testing or market-based solutions but with a powerful social democratic message.

Your choice, but I know what mine is - I don't believe in kneeling before white men who think they know better than the Democratic base of people of color, women, and other minorities.

The post was not meant endorse the group Chapo Trap House. They have been discussed on DU before. The was a new article and I posted it. Geez.

(4,035 posts)It says so in my post. That vote means that you are one of the people they despise, and who they say need to "bend the knee" to them in order to achieve unity. To them, you are worthless unless you acknowledge their overlordship of the left, and you admire them.
Now it turns out they mock rape victims too. Pardon me for not wanting scumbags such as these praised on DU.

LMAO , unfucking believable how those two are defined,..
And yeah they do sound like the breitbart / Fox News of the left and that is not an endorsement.

(4,035 posts)but it's time we guide the young white men on the Left to the back of the crowd, and let minority voices have a say. Too often the young white men who claim to be progressives turn out to be sexist and/or racist, either deliberately or because they haven't learned to see their own privilege. Guys like the Chapo Trap house guys and their supporters are excellent examples of the former - now their supporters are going after author Sady Doyle too, after she made a blowjob joke about the "bend the knee" speech of the Chapo guy. It's something we've seen a thousand times before, but it's always men, and it isn't a phenomenon just on the Right. (Many) men on both the Left and the Right are too fragile to accept women's voices, and too often the Margaret Atwood quote, "men are afraid they'll be laughed at, women are afraid they'll be killed" ends with men who feel they've been laughed at reacting with verbal or physical violence (hence the last part of the quote.)
they'll accuse you of "identity politics" ....
and "actually ....." you..
