Sean Spicer ended live on-camera briefings to stop Trump from telling him he sucked at his job

Critics of the White House have decried the decision to end the longstanding practice of televised daily press briefings as an assault on the free press. But it turns out that wasnt the real reason they shut off the cameras, and the actual motivation behind it is even dumber.
New York Times White House correspondent/incredibly overworked person Glenn Thrush revealed on the Times The Daily podcast on Monday that the decision to shut off the cameras came directly from now-former press secretary Sean Spicer, who didnt want his boss to see how bad a job hes doing.
A lot of us assume, and I think the punditocracy assumed, this was an assault on broadcast journalism, Thrush said in the podcast. In fact most of it was Spicer not wanting to be on camera so Donald Trump would not yell at him.
Trump generally thought Spicer was not tough enough at his job, and that he made a bunch of missteps, including favorably comparing Hitler to Assad, which even Trump thought was too far, Thrush said.
