(53,661 posts)Is that the working or non-working, or disabled, whatever, didn't pay taxes at all. A tax credit is a reduction in a bill that is being paid; the extremely poor don't pay income taxes, although they pay plenty of other taxes.
And the lie that blacks are universally poor, or never make sufficient income to pay thus never contributed, or never work, is just that, a big fat lie. It's part of the racist mantra, that blacks are lazy, uneducated or morally inferior.
I think a good example of Romney's freeloading was when he took a bailout from the government, as in the Kennedy ad that wasn't used in the Senate election, shown on the MM & V page. Tax credit is the language of those who think they entitled because they make enough under a progressive tax rate to take one. It appeals to conservatives.
This might work on those already opposed to Romney to bring out the vote, but will have no effect on conservatives. They still insist they are like Romney or will be one day. So as much as I enjoy bashing Romney and the rest of the GOP Tea Party sociopaths, I'm sure this won't dissuade them from voting for the royal family there.

(32,723 posts)and dividends. A million dollars in a savings account that pays 4% is $40,000 a year. Republicans call that "Income" and want it tax free.
They don't consider money earned through employment to be "income". That's "payroll". So when a Republican says, "I want to lower the Income tax for all Americans." the typical American gets all excited even though they're not included.

(53,661 posts)This is actually what Obama was getting at, I think, when he wanted a national dialog on Bain and the business model. That was after that mayor said Bain was good for America. I was taught that a budget set by government is not just a list of priorities, but a moral document.
Because if there is no moral basis for government, why bother to have one?
There is no morality in the bottom line thinking of corporatists, unless enriching the CEOs is the ultimate in their way of thinking, and all those inconvenient humans at the other end of the spectrum are just horses destined for the glue factory, and negligible.
Which is what is happening to lives and communities being shredded beyond any hope of repair. It means nothing to that model, as they are an expense.
And the increase of misery is a profitable thing, lowering costs, by wages, outsourcing, stealing pensions, pollution and death.

(50,589 posts)It's cute, but...
a) Romney took a $77,000 tax deduction (subtracts from taxable income) and not a credit (subtracts from taxes) for his horse. At Romney's income level, $77,000 in tax deductions equals MAYBE fifty bucks in tax savings.
b) It's his wife's horse, not Mitt's.
c) It was actually $27,000 for the horse, and $50,000 for a car with a reinforced roof.

(4,835 posts)In addition to the reinforcement that has to be done to a couple of Cadillacs to support the weight.
I think he deserves the deduction.

(50,589 posts)What is it about Republicans and horses?
Reagan loved to ride his horse.
We're not sure about Bush the Elder, but he probably ate a couple during The Big One.
The Horseman of Famine was afraid to get on one
And this moran likes to watch them dance.

(4,835 posts)Dubya couldn't ride a segue (sp?) it probably wouldn't have been wise to put his stupid ass on a horse. If they'd have taken pictures with just his head sticking through one of those photos (of someone sitting on a horse) we probably would have known it was fake.
He played on the ranch instead. It is important to show 'these people' that the president is one of them; a rugged outdoorsman.
It's probably why Bush Sr. didn't get reelected; he was always wearing golfing attire.
I think Romney misses the point on the importance of horses. One of his people will read this and they'll put out a picture of him on a horse in english riding gear. Probably best to leave the grandkids home for that photo op. Or at least make sure that everyone knows, without any doubt, that they're wearing sunscreen.

I've read more than once that Democrats just want "free stuff".
WTF is it with the 'free stuff" shit?...My last response to this
crap was basically: My spouse and I are both democrats, both
worked all our lives, both came from working class union households,
and now our income income is in six figures, so, no, we don't need any "free stuff",
I AM, however, glad to help those not as fortunate as myself and my family.
Obviously, there IS no "free stuff", because it's paid for by taxes from "we the people",
because "we the people", as a society, decided to be a DECENT society
and help the needy and unfortunate, whatever their race or ethnicity.
I hate these cheap, mean-spirited bastards!
