Trump, without evidence, cites Ukraine ties to ex-rival Clinton
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday blasted the investigation into alleged Russian meddling in last year's U.S. election and raised questions, without offering evidence, about Ukrainian support for his Democratic presidential rival, Hillary Clinton.
In a pair of early morning tweets, Trump also said U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions had "taken a very weak position" toward the Democratic presidential nominee and cited "Ukrainian efforts to sabotage Trump campaign - quietly working to boost Clinton'."
Trump did not elaborate or offer evidence about any role Ukraine may have played in the 2016 election.
The Republican president's first six months in office have been shadowed by investigations into possible Russian interference in the election and possible ties between his campaign and Moscow.
The Ukrainian presidents spokesman did not respond immediately to a request for comment. The Ukrainian Embassy in Washington denied Kiev had tried to influence the U.S. election.

(43,198 posts)The Ukrainian government is so weak (thanks in good part to Russia and Putin) it couldn't interfere in our elections even if it wanted to.
Basically, what happened was that there was a private Ukrainian-American citizen who had done some outreach consulting work with the DNC. On her own time and initiative--and without the Clinton campaign or DNC directing her to do so--because she was concerned about Paul Manafort's relationship with Russia, she contacted some Ukrainian government officials about information on Manafort's work in Ukraine for then pro-Russian strongman Viktor Yanukovych. The Ukrainian government officials obliged her request, and on her own initiative she shared what she found both with the media and the DNC. (And it was actually some eye opening stuff, but that's besides the point).
That's it.
It's so incredibly stupid and laughable and insulting.

(58,707 posts)Remember, Manafort's original Russia connection was as a Russian operative in Ukraine for a Putin puppet. He was on a similar path with Trump until he was exposed. Manafort may have gone underground re: Trump, but Trump is still acting like Putin's Puppet.
Every time Trump tweets this kind of shit is another potential avenue of investigation.
