Video of teachers confrontation with Border Patrol agent goes viral

Video is in a format that cannot be embedded on DU. Please check the link. Oh and the checkpoint was miles from the Mexican border.

SAN DIEGO – Video of a San Diego teacher's tense confrontation with Border Patrol agents at a checkpoint in New Mexico has gone viral after she was asked if she was an American citizen, reports CBS San Diego affiliate KFMB-TV.

San Diego mother and middle school teacher Shane Parmely refused to answer.

"As the back-and-forth began, Parmely is heard on the video remarking, "I'm passing (on) a federally-funded highway, driving, minding my own business. And I get pulled over and asked if I'm a citizen."

Turning around to address someone in the back seat, Parmely says, "I'm not answering."
She tells an agent, "You can ask me. I don't have to answer."

It's obvious and clearly documented that the border patrol checkpoints harass people of non-northern European complexions. It is a duty of patriotic citizens, that is those who actually believe in E Pluribus Unum, to challenge these boils on the fabric of freedom and work to dismantle these checkpoints.

Just for the attention or ?

It's not like this is anything new. The 100 mile border enforcement zone has been the law since the 1950's.

I probably would have done the same. Most of us don't like to be stopped in our own country. Something totalitarian about that.

Never have I been pulled over. Likely it's Drumpf who decided to ramp this up.

Doesn't make it any less stupid. Also given the increased focus from the Trump administration on deportation and illegal attempts at bigoted bans based on religion, and the well deserved focus on police killing unarmed citizens because of the utterly irrational fear that everyone is certain to try to kill them, it's understandable that people would be upset at being pulled over for no reason.

If cops want to be treated with respect, then they need to act in a way to deserve it. Far too few do.

identified as US Border Patrol is no different than being pulled over by any uniformed law enforcement officer and being asked if you are a US citizen is not exactly tantamount to being shot. I saw nothing to indicate that the Border Patrol officer treated her with any disrespect. In short, she wanted to go "sovereign citizen" with them, a stunt which never ends well.
