The Republicans, and the media, continued to call the ACA ,"Obamacare", throughout the entire debate, because they wanted to smear the former President and by calling their healthcare, "Obamacare", they could get people to vote their biases and prejudices, rather than their necessity for healthcare.
They played to the emotions of their base and the Obama "haters" by wrongfully connecting the ACA to the former President. It was cynical and pre-meditated to turn people against their own best interests. It continues even today.
Although Democrats, and the former President, have no problem with calling the ACA, "Obamacare", it is doing a disservice to the rest of America that might benefit from a more affordable healthcare system, and healthcare, period.
In my opinion, if we wish to keep "Obamacare" and make it better, we need to start calling it by its correct name, the ACA, the Affordable Care Act. That should be the first step in going forward to provide a better healthcare system for all of America.

Traitor McConnell used it like a curse word. I hope he hears it everyday, for the rest of his miserable life. He can choke on it.

Reminder:
ACA was signed in March 2010.
First repeal vote in House was in January 2011.
Repeal was never about "Obamacare" "collapsing." Nobody knew how well the ACA was going to do only ten months after it was signed.

(58,649 posts)eventually, we have to get past all of this "branding" bullshit. Trump won on branding, most Repubs win on branding. When they lose, they go back to their market researchers and seek out a new brand.
Perhaps someday Americans will just have "health care." I long for that day. Until then, I'll probably use both ACA and Obamacare depending on what discussion I'm in and with whom.

There have been several rallies with Republicans who were opposed to Obamacare before they realized they were benefiting from it.
Now if we could just have the facts penetrate West Virginia and Kentucky residents...
