"If Republicans are going to pass great future legislation in the Senate, they must immediately go to a 51 vote majority, not senseless 60......Even though parts of healthcare could pass at 51, some really good things need 60. So many great future bills & budgets need 60 votes...."

gratuitous
(82,849 posts)5. Republicans insisted on the 60 vote threshold when they were in the minority
But now that they're in the majority, they can't change it back without that same supermajority. Too bad, so sad.

(1,530 posts)6. Think I predicted this yesterday
Trump will now start hammering on the filibuster. Even though, in this case, the filibuster didn't cause the defeat (it was a straight up loss).
However, avoidance of the filibuster, is what led to the structure of the bill (whatever it was called in its final iteration).
McConnel really doesn't want to give that up though. I don't think Trump has much stroke with the Senate right now.
