(971 posts)I was at the beginning of a 6-day hospital stay, and was in rather bad shape physically.
Part of the Protocol for my particular condition is a CAT scan to check for a specific type of cancer.
I was being positioned on the table and the Nurses and Radiologist were trying to keep me calm by explaining everything going on. They asked if I had ever had a CAT scan before. I answered that I had at least one every day.
They seemed a bit taken aback by this.
I explained that I had a cat at home that would walk the entire length of my body as part of her ritual for going to bed, curled up by my head. She'd start by one foot, then walk up my leg to the opposite shoulder.
We all had a bit of a giggle break for the moment. I couldn't believe that they had never heard that joke before, as it was a rather large hospital. In retrospect, I was probably in better shape than most of their customers, being conscious and communicative.
On the other hand, maybe they were humoring me a bit, but it did seem to relax them somewhat.
