Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein said Sunday that the expanding investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election is continuing apace, even as President Trump dismissed the probe as a total fabrication.
Rosenstein said special counsel Robert S. Mueller III can investigate any crimes that he might discover within the scope of his probe, but the deputy attorney general would not discuss which individuals are the subject of their inquiry. The interview comes days after Trump said he believes it would be inappropriate for Mueller to dig into Trump family finances.
The special counsel is subject to the rules and regulations of the Department of Justice, and we dont engage in fishing expeditions, Rosenstein said when asked about the probe in an interview on Fox News Sunday.
Rosenstein declined to comment on reports that Mueller is using a grand jury in a court in Washington to aid in his investigation but he said that such a step is a routine part of many investigations.

(3,613 posts)Note that they have had grand juries on Trump in EDVA for months per Louise Mensch. Also, Trump was informed by the Marshal of the Supreme Court on the runway as he was going overseas, that he was being formally impeached, back in May.
What does it mean to be indicted by a federal grand jury?
When someone is charged with a felony, at some point the state has to present probable cause to show that a crime had been committed and that the person in question committed it. They present their evidence to a grand jury without opposition, who will decide whether to issue an indictment.

(35,309 posts)Nobody was testing evidence. It issued subpoenas and "enlisted" (I won't say "coerced" or "compelled" testimony. Grand juries are a multitool. And their indictments, sometimes not so important.
Mensch is sometimes quoted as saying that's what the Marshal said (if the event even happened), but it's not what she actually tweeted--and even what she tweeted is sort of, um, not really how the Constitution works. But then again, it's not her Constitution or something she needs to concern her beautiful mind with, is it?
And what's "edva" except a Russian word meaning "scarely"?
