General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe NEED EVERYONE to Join the Democratic Party!
We need everyone who is willing to vote for Democrats to help win every election, to join us.
We need candidates to run for every seat from Dog Catcher, to a replacement for the creep presently in the White House.
We need you to bring your friends from everywhere, or from any political party, you can find to vote for Democrats.
We need you to advocate for other Democrats in your neighborhood who speak up and even more when they run for an elective office as a Democrat.
We need everyone to join with anyone from any political party who votes for, and with, Democrats to defeat every Republican we can replace and every wrong idea they create.
We need to defeat the GOP and save the world from the evil they stand for and the danger they pose for all of us.

(7,911 posts)When two people have two different interpretations of something, to say that your interpretation is the honest one implies that the other person's interpretation is dishonest. The word "dishonest" entails the notion of deception with malicious intent.
Instead of saying "I am honest and you have malicious intent" why not say "My interpretation differs from yours." It IS possible, you know, for two honest people to have two different interpretations of something. To simply declare that you are honest and "the other" is dishonest is to set yourself up as the ultimate authority on what is true and honest, and to declare that anyone who disagrees with you is dishonest, or at best, woefully ignorant. This approach seldom convinces someone who happens to disagree with you, Instead, it makes a person with an honestly different opinion into an "enemy", or at the very least, an "enemy of the truth", or an "enemy of honesty".
The figurative comparison with fundamentalist religion and the declaration that "my way is honest, therefore you are dishonest" was meant to illustrate that failure to allow that honest difference of opinions may exist among honest people.
I am open to being persuaded that my interpretation might be wrong. I am, after all, only human. I am not open to being called dishonest because my opinion does not align with yours. If you meant to convince me that you are right and I am wrong, try offering me your line of reasoning instead of judgemental insults tinged with an implied air of superiority. Then I would be willing to listen to what you have to say.

(905 posts)We need to become a functional "family" A family that sticks together against the outsiders; still a family that internally sorts out their differences and even takes opposing views and opposing actions at times but one that comes together for the common good.
