Insurer seeks delay in paying $675,000 to Bill Cosby's lawyers in suit linked to sex assault claims
Insurance giant AIG wants more time before it forks over $675,000 in legal fees to embattled comedian Bill Cosby, who faces civil litigation in Massachusetts for allegedly sexually assaulting and libeling multiple women.
In a brief court filing Thursday, AIG Property Casualty Company asked a federal judge in Springfield to delay an order, issued in April, compelling the company to make the payout to a trust held by a law firm defending Cosby against the civil claims.
The insurer is appealing the April ruling, but Cosby has informed AIG Property Casualty Company that he intends to execute the judgment and collect the payment, the filing said. The company wants a stay of the order while the appeal is pending.
Several women have sued Cosby in federal court in Springfield, accusing him of sexual assault and libel, for branding them liars through his representatives when the women went public with their claims. He has denied the allegations through his legal team and filed a countersuit.
