"Hate, Hate, and More Hate..."

In discussing some events and some people, these 5 words have arrived here at DU. These words divide us !! We start to attack each other.. Some old timers have said these words were here before, but they have returned. Dividing us with hate, is a goal of the Republicans and Trump. And "hate within" can be very dangerous, destructive, and lethal.

..the more they remain the same.

As one who has participated in anti war demonstrations since the Spring of 1961 ( a Ban the bomb demonstration in DC sponsored by the American Humanists) I do see a more public expression of bias and a much more frequent refusal to engage in discussions leading to informative decision making on important issues.

Since our defeat in Vietnam, and make no mistake, it was a defeat, in part supported by the enormous outpouring of the American public's stance against that war, the rulers of this nation ( the corporations who supply the campaign cash to our then enslaved politicians) have learned to manipulate the public far more effectively than before.

This manipulation takes many forms in fact; purchasing of the media to reduce alternative opinions, an ending of the Draft so that American families are a bit less involved personally in this endless stream of for profit wars, the crippling of our system of education to produce a populace less equipped to stand against the tide of creeping fascism that engulfs us all, the rapidly escalating cost of higher education that turns college educated folks into wage slaves crippled by enormous debt.

But one important fact remains clear, we on the Left are guilty as well, guilty at least of ineffective responses to this systematic destruction of civility, compromise and democracy. It might be difficult to separate the trolls who do the will of the right while masquerading as leftists but there are enough on the left who ,unwillingly perhaps, help the right destroy our democratic processes through anger, ennui, refusal to accept allies because those potential allies are not 100% in line with their own visions.

Not as subtle as you might have supposed.

4. Sometimes...the "allies" are really "awful", but we need them, they help us to survive..

So, although the Soviet Union had a "deal" with Hitler, when Hitler invaded the Soviet Union it was accepted as an part of a coalition to fight against Nazi Germany. Stalin did fit our idea of an ally, but it worked. The Soviet Union lost 20,000,000 of their people in the fight against Hitler. That front opened by Hitler, by invading the Soviet Union, allowed the allies to fight the war on two fronts, from the east and the west,,(also coming up through Italy.) But dealing with Stalin was awful, but Churchill said he would deal with anyone to beat Hitler. But that alliance worked. Our alliance here at DU has to work.

The other side has resources which outweigh our resources. We need to not give up and work with all that we can work with. Trump and the Republicans need to be beaten. Hating each other at DU is counterproductive. Some of the meanness that we hurl at each other, needs to be toned down, so the strength that it takes to hurl that can be saved in efforts to beat the enemy, not to beat ourselves.

But they are, alas, important to achieve goals.
I do not give a rats behind whom you "hate", frankly. What I do care about is making progress, ending the creeping fascism that overtakes our democratic processes more and more.
In order to achieve said progress we need, in a democratic society, a majority. Your spouting sophomoric anger and insult puts you squarely in the way of progress.
