In 6 months "we" are off to Pyeongchang...

With the Winter Olympics coming up and the whole world sending their very best athletes to Pyeongchang, South Korea how vulnerable will they all be? And not just the athletes, there will be millions there all in one place just 100 miles from DMZ.

1. So there's a Pyeongchang in South Korea, and the better known Pyongyang in North Korea.

People should think more carefully when naming their cities.

'Natchitdoches' was pronounced "Nackatish'.

Don't ask me why...

17. To add to the confusion, they are official "sister cities" and were at one time rival cities.

They aren't too far apart geographically and are both named after Caddo tribes. The cities have an interesting history.

Natchitoches is the oldest city in Louisiana. It was is not far from the Texas border. It was founded in 1714 by the French. It is named after the Natchitoches tribe which is pronounced Náshit'ush in Caddo.

Nacogoches is the oldest city in Texas
and is located near the Louisiana border. It was founded by the Spanish in 1716. The purpose of the settlement was to prevent the French from moving into Spanish controlled areas. It was founded because of Natchitoches.

Nacodogoches is named after Nacogdoche tribe (which is a Spanish version of the name) The tribe is also known as the Nazadachotzi,[3] Nacadocheeto, Nacodissy, Nacodochito, Nagodoche, Nasahossoz, Naugdoche, Nocodosh,[4] and Neticatzi.[7]

Have I confused you enough for a Friday - LOL Everything you wanted to know about two obscure cities.

When we first started dating, she kept saying "We need to go to Natchitoches" and finally I said "Why would I want to drive to Texas??" I've never lived that down!

Not to be confused with George West, Texas.

Place names are fun.

(In Maryland we have TWO Wicomico Rivers, one on the eastern shore and one that empties into the Potomac. Whoever named them clearly didn't consult with each other.)
