the impulsive whim of one individual, especially one as unstable and lacking in knowledge, principles, or judgment as Trump.

respond. I think we will then die in a nuclear war with China. I expect this will happen within the next few weeks. I am planning accordingly... going to go out on my own terms once the Chinese missiles are flying.

None of the leaders in NK or China want to die. Deterrence still exists, despite our Idiot in Chief.

I think TRUMP believes he will survive no matter what, and once he attacks NK pre-emptively China will have no choice.

As for me, I'm saying my goodbyes and as I said planning on leaving this earth on my own terms, not TRUMP's.

Peace.

... same as most of the world.

Any military action we take against North Korea will make U.S.A. the pariah state.

Can Trump launch the missiles all by his lonesome? Would the military really go along with a launch order? Assuming there are any rational people around Trump, wouldn't they make sure he can't carry out a launch threat?

Three related questions actually.

Once the president enters the codes, which he can do by himself, there is no "would the military go along" about it.

Maybe the entire system should be re-thought.

There's always a possibility that Trump is sufficiently illiterate that he won't be able to read the codes.

I mean, we've got two crazy shitheads going at it, but the loss of their empire would seem to be a deterrant.

Then again, because the US is situated much better than North Korea to win such a conflict (irrespective of massive collateral damage to others) and Trump's possible advantage of being a "wartime president" (and of course you can't impeach a wartime president, it would be unpatriotic!) could possibly--possibly--move him to make a pre-emptive strike. Maybe not a nuclear pre-emptive strike, but a pre-emptive strike nonetheless.

Since there's so much talk about it here, I thought a poll might be informative. So far, the vast majority of DUers agree with me.

world leader to treat him like a peer. Trump wants a fight, but I doubt he wants one w/ China. Still, we are all lesser beings and if his ego needs to be fed to the tune of a few million of us dying, then so be it. We have to hope and pray that someone can get thru to him. I hope Gen Kelly earns his keep.
