I just posted this on FB. DU, I owe you so much, and I will for as long as I live.
Another Sunday dawns soon, and with it comes another posting of pics, a humble offering of thanks to the people, who in a time of great sadness, came to my aid. To those unaware of the origins of teh LOLcats, it began post 2008, when my father passed away. Over 500 DUers came out to offer love and sympathy, and it is what saved me during as dark and sad a time as I have ever known. That love kept me afloat, and I am still indebted to every soul who came to my aid.
Dark times are upon us again, and come the morning, I will light my candle against it again. There must be light and laughter, for without it we are sunk. For the love shown to me, and still shown to this day, let there be lolz, and awwz, and may the darkness recoil from the sight of our smiles. See you all then. Coffee will still cost a quarter, but the refills are on the house.
(Mods, please forgive my posting this in GD instead of The Lounge. I felt it appropriate, given the times.)

I am so glad you told us. It had never even occurred to me to wonder why you did them so faithfully...
We all love you, remember.......it's very important.

Now, it's one of the highlights of my week!
Hooray for high-speed internet!
Thanks, SCE, for keeping one of DU's greatest traditions alive.
I never knew about the origin of the tradition. I'm so sorry for your loss.
DU was here for me when my mother died, and for that I will be forever grateful.

(20,759 posts)Yes, the "big issues" and the crises of the week, and the information sharing and mobilization of people who care and want a better world and a better America are the ongoing flow of DU.
But your LOLcats, and DemoTex's amazing pictures, and so many Loungies who remind us with music trivia threads and silly pun riffs, and beautiful images and more-- you make this a community.
You're the extra dimension that gives DU its humanity.
Thank you, again.
appreciatively,

(20,246 posts)My phone went kaplooey.
I remember you from way back. I joined under another nom de plume when the mad cowboy got sElected to occupy We the People's House. Then curtailed when Barack landed the presidency. Plus, my mom almost died in Fla in '03 and we had to get her up here with us.
I had dial-up till oh mb '09-'10 and then I caved for wifi card/jet pack.
Dial-up: bazzziiingg, bazzzoonngg, pfsssffitt, clackety clack. Connection at long last!
I embellished my missive to you,
'Some Enchanted Evening', but in essence, you are loved and appreciated! I always viewed your contribution of LOL CATS. Yes, with dial-up! It was worth it.
So then,
From my heart to yours,
😘

Oh mah achin' back luggin' them laptops around.
We have a not too old clunker that stayed put only 'cause it was grotesque to carry around even from room to room. It's loaded with important stuff and needs to get stripped.
I need three more lifetimes to get it all done!

(14,573 posts)I love your LOLcats post and look forward to it every Sunday.
While I did not know the personal story behind why you go to the trouble each week, I deeply appreciate this weekly contribution to sanity.
Face it: none of us asked to be born, but we were. If we are lucky, we grew up in a loving family. If we are supremely lucky, we are healthy. If we are 'out-of-this-world' lucky, we had the chance to get a good education.
Then we work for fifty years. If we are lucky, Social Security will be there for us, as well as Medicare, because these are earned benefits - we bought them month by month over years of working. If we are even luckier, we have a structured pension plan that can supplement that Social Security and Medicare so we have a reasonably comfortable retirement.
Nonetheless, at sometime in our fifties, sixties or seventies, most of us will come down with some awful, twisting disease that saps our very humanity and kills us slowly and painfully.
Then, by the time we die, our estate is empty because the health care system has eked every last bit of money out of it keeping us alive even after we're nothing but an empty shell.
So, in the face of this, how do I keep going day after day?
Three things:
1. Love for my children and grandchildren.
2. Devotion to causes greater than myself, and
wait for it....
3. KITTENS!

(2,012 posts)and your delightful post every Sunday in these dark days, SCE. In my personal life and in the planet's life this is a sad time but all we can do is be grateful for the good people like you and so many DU'ers who do what they can to make this a better place for our children and grandchildren. Like all the people who walked in Denver and around the nation today to say no to hate and violence.
