I think today he was supposed to try to "patch things up" with a proposed infrastructure plan. But he was pissed about them leaving so instead of behaving like a grown-up he doubles down on the reason that they left. He's not a graceful loser.

They left because they did not like his response to Charlottesville. He moderated his response yesterday, but it didn't do much good. When that didn't work out, he gave up on being polite and pretty much blew his stack.

He's immature and impulsive. He does not know how to take the high road.
So now he goes to the lowest denominator.
