What I posted to Facebook...

This is my grandfather. He killed Nazis. He risked his life to ensure that Nazism and Fascism would never make its way to our shores. Today, instead of condemning Nazis, saying they have no place in America, the President all but excused their vile, hateful and un-American attacks - an attack that included murder.

My grandfather would be so ashamed of what his country, the one he put his life on the line for, has become. Frankly, I'm glad he didn't live to see this day because it would have broken his heart.

I would like to hear the opinions of some of the remaining WWIII soldiers on this whole Nazi/White Supremacist/Fascist mess, and our president being complicit w/them.

Their observations matter, we should listen to them. They've earned the right to speak truth to power on this subject.

tho it was desegregated while he was still in the service). He served in engine rooms- one of the few posts permitted black sailors - and in the Philippines, guarding Japanese POW's near, at, and after the war (about which he tells a very funny story that I might recount some time). He's a pretty quiet, mellow guy, and more so now that he's bed-bound with late stage Parkinson's.

He's not able to do much other than watch CNN all day (can't even change channels by himself) which is a novelty to him, since neither of us were ever TV watchers. His mind is still pretty much intact, especially for current things, so he's well aware of what's going on.

He feels pretty much as we all do: this is the worst president ever; he never believed it could happen here. He was a big Hillary supporter, favoring her over Obama in the '08 primaries, and his strongest feeling is huge regret that she isn't the president. (His West Indian father had been taught in school that Queen Victoria freed the slaves in the British Empire -of which his island was a part when he was a child- and he remained for the rest of his long, politically active life a great supporter of women in positions of power. The apple didn't fall far from the tree with my DH.)

needed him to be the Senior NCO on medical trains. For the most part these trains hauled "shell shocked" survivors from Europe and later the Pacific to inland mental hospitals. It was a needed, but horrible duty to perform.

He was proud that he had served but never told me about the specifics of his duty until he was on his deathbed in 2010. He also had never talked about his father's cousins who disappeared in Europe and were never heard from again.

I cannot imagine his reaction to our present situation. He taught me that hate was evil, but I'm at risk of failing his teachings with tRump.

8. I was thinking the same thing. My dad would be heartbroken & outraged. He was a Marine

Raider, First Marine Division, first wave at Guadalcanal; fought & suffered in many S. Pacific hellholes like Peleliu, Okinawa, & places nobody's heard about in 70 years to fight fascism, bringing home a Silver Star & a Purple Heart among others. My uncle would also be horrified. He was in the US Air force & flew against Rommel in North Africa fighting fascism, earning a Distinguished Flying Cross & a Purple Heart among others. They wouldn't believe that the American people elected an American Fascist for president, but they did. It's up to me & everyone who has a loved one who sacrificed in WWII to stand up to this evil that has infested the White House and is poisoning our nation.

I thank your grandfather for his service. (BTW, he reminds me a little of a young Bill Clinton)

My father drove a tank in the Korean War. The North Koreans could fight just as much as the German ground forces could. Growing up he would talk about the "fourteen months and twelve days" he spent on the front line. He died August 2/2016. He would be just as ashamed of what this country has become as your grandfather. That is a good looking picture of him.

I for one will honor your dad as I do my own.

3 times, saw guys on his plane killed by flak. He flew on the first daylight bombing raid.
He retired as a Colonel. He's gone now, but as a lifelong Democrat, he would have
been disgusted by this wanna be President.
