Trump is urging Republicans in Congress to use the Steve Scalise shooting as a cover for his support of neo-Nazis and white supremacists.

Here is the talking point that Trump wants Republicans in Congress to use, From cop killing and violence at political rallies, to shooting at Congressmen at a practice baseball game, extremists on the left have engaged in terrible acts of violence.
There is no low that Donald Trump wont sink to in an effort to save his own skin. Trump is in real trouble as the blowback from his support for racist violence is growing stronger, so the President is trying to hide behind the shooting of a member of Congress. Republicans in Congress would be wise to ignore the Presidents wishes because any Republican who goes along with Trump will be supporting and encouraging racial violence. Every step that Republicans take with Trump is another move toward their own demise.

(1,303 posts)The shooter, who had a violent history including arrests for battery, resisting arrest and drunken driving, was identified as 66-year-old James T. Hodgkinson, of Illinois, Fox News confirmed. President Trump said Hodgkinson died from injuries sustained when he was shot by police.
"I have just been informed that the alleged shooter at the Republican baseball practice is someone who apparently volunteered on my presidential campaign," Sanders said in a statement. "I am sickened by this despicable act. Let me be as clear as I can be. Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms."

(11,736 posts)I will stipulate that historically, every side of the political spectrum has engaged in violence. I will also stipulate that violence to promote fear for political purposes (terrorism) is not justified from any aspect of the spectrum.
Where assholes like Trump and his White Supremacists always go wrong is that people on the left side of the spectrum always condemn acts of violence from our side. We tend to hope that the violence did not occur, or was from the right of the spectrum, but we condemn it, unlike right wingers who avoid full condemnation, then always throw out "What About..."

Also, we are not binary thinkers like conservatives tend to be. When people who are oppressed riot and engage in destruction of property, we condemn the violence, and we look at what motivated it. We ask ourselves questions and have conversations about it. We see the complexity and the rationale that people have who are desperate and feeling oppressed, even though we strongly condemn their actions. We want to actually address the issues to prevent further violence.
As you said however, when it comes to Nazis, we know their rationale. We have seen the conclusions that they have drawn about their situation in The Final Solution. There is no real dialogue with them. Perhaps individuals can be converted and deprogrammed, but the ideology itself is nihilistic and dangerous.
