Enough Of The "States Rights" Bulls#!t. The Confederacy Was FOUNDED ON WHITE SUPREMACY.

I don't give a shit what you saw Jimmy Stewart say in Shenandoah, or Robert Duval say in Gods and Generals...if your ancestors fought on the side of the Confederacy, they were fighting for the 'natural right' of white men to enslave black men as livestock. Nobody's blaming YOU for that, UNLESS you actually SUPPORT the idea. It's not a southern pride thing. If you want to idolize brave southern soldiers, why not build statues to people like John Buford, who fought on the RIGHT side of that war?

I can't believe this ZOMBIE LIE still persists, but I see it written all over the right wing blog sites. The post-hoc sanitization and fumigation of the STENCH of white supremacy that the Confederacy was founded upon. 'Conservatives' claiming the Civil War was about States Rights, and limiting the power of the federal government.

The fact that this bullshit is now being spouted by the PARTY OF LINCOLN makes it TWICE as revolting.

If there is any lingering doubt that THE CIVIL WAR WAS FOUGHT OVER WHITE SUPREMACY, take it from the mouth of the Vice President of the Confederacy, Alexander Stephens in his 1861 'cornerstone' speech on why the southern states seceded from the union.

"The new Constitution has put at rest forever all the agitating questions relating to our peculiar institutions—African slavery as it exists among us—the proper status of the negro in our form of civilization. This was the immediate cause of the late rupture and present revolution. ...

...The prevailing ideas entertained by him [Jefferson] and most of the leading statesmen at the time of the formation of the old Constitution were, that the enslavement of the African was in violation of the laws of nature; that it was wrong in principle, socially, morally and politically. It was an evil they knew not well how to deal with; but the general opinion of the men of that day was, that, somehow or other, in the order of Providence, the institution would be evanescent and pass away... Those ideas, however, were fundamentally wrong. They rested upon the assumption of the equality of races. This was an error. ...

...Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition. "

white over black. It wasn't simply another choice of the big, bad, old federal government telling state governments what taxes to charge, or how to handle gun sales. The FOUNDING PRINCIPLE was white supremacy.

That is known.

"It wasn't simply another choice of the big, bad, old federal government telling state governments what taxes to charge, or how to handle gun sales."

That's why I stated my comment as I did.
