He is stubborn and doesn't realize how bad this is gettingThe Charlottesville furor is the latest example of the chaos that can result from Trumps temper and refusal to back down.

President Donald Trumps decision to double down on his argument that both sides were to blame for the violent clashes at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, was driven in part by his own anger and his disdain for being told what to do.
Trumps temper has been a constant force in this eight-month-old White House. Hes made policy decisions after becoming irritated with staffers and has escalated fights in the past few weeks with everyone from the Senate majority leader to the volatile dictator of North Korea.
The controversy over his response to the Charlottesville violence was no different. Agitated about being pressured by aides to clarify his first public statement, Trump unexpectedly unwound the damage control of the prior two days by assigning blame to the alt-left and calling some of the white supremacist protesters very fine people.
In some ways, Trump would rather have people calling him racist than say he backed down the minute he was wrong, one adviser to the White House said on Wednesday about Charlottesville. This may turn into the biggest mess of his presidency because he is stubborn and doesn't realize how bad this is getting.
For Trump, anger serves as a way to manage staff, express his displeasure or simply as an outlet that soothes him. Often, aides and advisers say, hell get mad at a specific staffer or broader situation, unload from the Oval Office and then three hours later act as if nothing ever occurred even if others still feel rattled by it. Negative television coverage and lawyers earn particular ire from him.

(59,585 posts)He backs down all the time!
He signed the Russia sanctions bill, he just bailed on gutting the ACA, he backed down on "The Wall" back in April, he didn't fire Sessions or Mueller, he did fire Flynn.
His spine is made of linguini, and yelling at people doesn't change that.

(22,124 posts)and most of the republicans that control the House of Rep and Senate, big time.
W/ Koch money, the moral fiber of this country is being unraveled, by a political party desperate to retain power, regardless of consequences.
Warning...economy backlash will come soon, w/ totally wacko business practices/methodologies being applied by republican 'want-to-be' economists, despite long running evidence that such practices do not work in the real world...
E.g., state of KS/Brownback economic disaster...

(4,407 posts)Egoists who are emotionally driven. Everything is short term - the immediate relief of emotions swirling around an ego deeply out of balance. A rageaholic who cannot be rational as the emotions drives the bus. He is not about results, unless it involves immediate self-gratification.
His ideological vacuum makes him an easy target for angry politics - nationalism (economic and otherwise), otherism, and racism. Notice he isn't really even big on patriotism because that puts the focus on the Country rather then him.

(4,835 posts)I had that thought the other day when he was speaking at the Police event - and going on about MS-13...
Why was he dignifying them by mentioning and taunting them...? Russia, ISIS and...MS-13??? Presidents can do all sorts of stuff to fight gang violence - without giving them recognition.
I'd be really pissed if I lived in gang affected neighborhood.
