The 'capital of the Confederacy' is suddenly considering removing its massive Civil War monuments
Hayley Peterson

The city of Richmond, Virginia, is debating the fate of some of the US's largest and oldest monuments commemorating Confederate leaders. Business Insider/Hayley Peterson

Mayor Levar Stoney has ordered a city commission to consider removing monuments to Confederate leaders in Richmond, Virginia — an option that was previously not being considered.

Stoney said he would not allow the city 'to be threatened by white supremacists and neo-Nazi thugs.'

Richmond was the capital of the Confederacy, and its monuments are massive and include some of the oldest in the US.

Organizers have already canceled a rally planned in support of the monuments after white supremacists descended on Charlottesville, Virginia, and a woman was killed.

The south won the peace, so the saying goes.

If Lincoln had not been assassinated it might have been a different story.

The folks there are no fans of Monument Avenue and other monuments.

The VCU Medical Campus is forced to ahve the CSA White House literally 50 feet from the VCU Medical Center aka the hospital, and right next to the dental school and library. Friends have told me racist fucks are always by it in hate shirts taking pics of themselves. People don't like it, but the law says they cannot do anything.

I knew the Nazis would cancel their rally -- the good citizens of Richmond would kick tehri asses, and teh cops there are no joke, and are ready for violence. Through in the local gangs like the Crips, and the Nazis would ahve been crushed.
